Records 6.0 sacks in rookie season
Carter finished his rookie year with 6.0 sacks, 33 tackles, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery (which he returned for a touchdown) in 16 regular-season games.
ANALYSIS
He may have started just one game and played a modest 51 percent of the Eagles' defensive snaps, but the ninth overall pick in the 2023 Draft made the most of his opportunities to stake a strong claim for Defensive Rookie of the Year. His sack total ranked third on the Eagles and fifth among all rookies.

Second-best rookie per Ross
Marc Ross of NFL.com has Carter second on his midseason rookie rankings behind quarterback C.J. Stroud.
ANALYSIS
Although Carter has been on a snap count for most of the year, he played a season-high 49 defensive snaps in Week 9 against the Cowboys, when he had two tackles and 0.5 sacks for the contest. He's now up to 17 tackles, including 4.0 sacks, in eight games this season as he operates behind veteran defensive tackles Fletcher Cox and Jordan Davis on the depth chart. Ross also notes that Carter's 90.6 interior defender rating -- per Pro Football Focus -- is the highest among rookies and surpasses Aaron Donald's 2014 rookie season of 90.0 through each of their first eight games.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Carter slipped on draft day in part due to a Jan. 15 incident that resulted in charges of reckless driving, but his ability between the lines isn't in doubt. The Eagles traded up to select him at the No. 9 spot, creating a potential defensive tackle tandem of the future with former Georgia teammate Jordan Davis. Assuming Carter's off-field issues don't prevent him from making the most of his talent, he should spend plenty of time in NFL backfields just as he did in college, though Davis and Fletcher Cox make for stiff competition for snaps.
