Throwback performance for vet

Arlovski defeated Ben Rothwell via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC San Antonio on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
It was vintage Arlovski from start to finish in this one, who got the better of the vast majority of the striking exchanges due largely to a consistent jab. He cut up Rothwell near the midway point of the first round and continued to batter his face the rest of the way out. He showed both excellent conditioning and a solid chin, as he was able to withstand a final effort from Rothwell in the third round that had him wobbled a bit, but that was truly Rothwell's best moment in the fight. While Arlovski had been winless in his last four fights, this performance could very well land him back in the rankings of a shallow heavyweight division. This win also broke a tie with Frank Mir for most victories in heavyweight history (17).
Draws Rothwell in classic HW rematch
HeavyweightUFC
May 21, 2019
Arlovski will take on Ben Rothwell in a heavyweight matchup at UFC San Antonio on July 20, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
This is a rematch of a July 2008 fight in which Arlovski defeated Rothwell via third-round TKO, but more than a decade later, both fighters are at very different stages in their respective careers. Arlovski, now 40 years old, has been quite active for the UFC of late, but is getting by merely on name recognition at this point. He did get a tough break from the judges in his April matchup against Augusto Sakai, but it nonetheless resulted in his fourth consecutive loss. Rothwell, on the other hand, made his comeback from nearly a three-year layoff in March, dropping a unanimous decision to Blagoy Ivanov at UFC Wichita. Rothwell has the advantage on paper as the younger fighter with slightly better height and reach, but this is likely a toss-up fight when it's all said and done.
Drops controversial decision
HeavyweightUFC
April 27, 2019
Arlovski lost to Augusto Sakai via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fort Lauderdale on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Arlovski attempted 50 more significant strikes than Sakai, unofficially, and appeared to have a double-digit edge in the overall striking department. His work on the feet was more accurate, including damaging shots to the head and body. Despite the strong effort, the 40-year-old will be winless in his last four fights.
Draws Sakai in Fort Lauderdale

March 14, 2019
Arlovski (nose) will take on Augusto Sakai in a heavyweight matchup at UFC Fort Lauderdale on April 27, Alexander K. Lee of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Arlovski dropped his third consecutive fight to Walt Harris back in December, losing via split decision despite winning the striking battle 44 to 24. That bout resulted in a medical suspension for Arlovski, who has since been cleared by a physician to return earlier. The 40-year-old is nearing the end of the road in his MMA career -- a point that could have been argued for the last several years. Nonetheless, the promotion will trot him out against Sakai, a former Bellator fighter that knocked out Chase Sherman in the third round of his UFC debut. Sakai is a 27-year-old Brazilian who is 12-1-1 as a professional, with his only loss coming to the streaking Cheick Kongo under the Bellator banner.
Hit with medical suspension

Arlovski was handed a 180-day medical suspension for a possible broken nose on Monday, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Arlovski suffered the injury during his split-decision loss to Walt Harris at UFC 232 in late December. He'll be ineligible to return before late June unless cleared by a doctor.
