Outlasts Mike Perry in Vegas
WelterweightUFC
November 21, 2020
Means defeated Mike Perry via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 255 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Means picked up a nice victory in addition to pocketing 30 percent of Perry's purse after the later missed weight on Friday. Means deserved this victory but it didn't come easy. He had to survive a very deep choke from Perry in Round 1 before eventually working his way back to the feet and calming things down. While Perry was trying to knock Means' head off with every shot, "The Dirty Bird" took a far more calculated approach. He fired off repeated, unanswered jabs, and since Perry never adjusted, Means kept throwing it. Means is 4-4 in his past eight fights dating back to November 2017 and is quite likely to remain highly inconsistent moving forward but this was a strong showing in a difficult situation for the 36-year-old.

WelterweightUFC
November 20, 2020
Means' opponent in Saturday's welterweight bout at UFC 255, Mike Perry, missed weight but the fight will still continue as planned, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Perry weighed in at over four pounds past the welterweight non-title fight limit at 175.5 pounds. Perry will have to forfeit 30 percent of his purse, however. Means stepped in to take this fight for Robbie Lawler, who had to withdraw for an undisclosed reason.
Steps in against Mike Perry
WelterweightUFC
November 2, 2020
Means will take on Mike Perry in a welterweight matchup at UFC 255 on Nov. 21, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Means takes the place of Robbie Lawler, who withdrew for undisclosed reasons. Means will be looking to win his second fight in a row, something he hasn't done since all the way back in 2015-2016. He's alternated wins and losses over his last six fights. Perry will also be searching for his second straight win, as he bounced back from a pair of losses to defeat Mickey Gall by unanimous decision in June. This should be a fan-friendly matchup between two high-volume strikers, though Means statistically owns the advantage in both significant strikes landed and absorbed. Means will also enter with four-inch advantages in both height and reach.
Back in win column
WelterweightUFC
August 9, 2020
Means defeated Laureano Staropoli via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC on ESPN+ 32 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Despite getting finished in two of his last three fights, Means' chin held up here and allowed him to cash the ticket as a (+125) betting underdog. He was outlanded by Staropoli in Round 1 but able to absorb Staropoli's best shots and land plenty of return fire of his own. The momentum turned his way close to the midway point of Round 2 when a head kick sent Staropoli crashing to the canvas. Means didn't get the finish there, but he was the fresher fighter from that point on and won the striking battled in both Rounds 2 and 3. Not only did Means get his 30th professional victory, but he took home 20 percent of Staropoli's purse after his opponent missed weight. The veteran still has enough left in the tank to contend with the middle tier of the welterweight division.
Makes weight on second attempt, opponent heavy
WelterweightUFC
August 7, 2020
Means missed weight on his first attempt but managed to cut with an extra hour and will be squaring off against a heavy opponent in Laureano Staropoli at a catchweight bout Saturday, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Means initially was a pound heavy for his welterweight bout but managed to trim that off with the extra hour. He will take home 20 percent of Staropoli's cut as a result of Staropoli missing weight by an even larger margin. Means is looking to bounce back from a first-round submission to Daniel Rodriguez in February, the fourth loss in his last six fights.

July 12, 2020
Means (29-12-1, 1 NC) is slated to face Laureano Staropoli (9-2-0) in a welterweight fight Aug. 8 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Mike Heck and Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com report.
ANALYSIS
Means will be looking to rebound in Las Vegas after suffering a second-round loss via submission to Daniel Rodriguez in his last trip to the Octagon on Feb. 15 at UFC Rio Rancho. "The Dirty Bird" hasn't found much consistency of late, as he has yet to win consecutive fights since 2015.
