Wrestling leads to first UFC win
November 20, 2021
Durden defeated Aori Qileng via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
A hard fought, well-earned victory by Durden was completely overshadowed by an insensitive comment made to ESPN analyst Daniel Cormier in his post-fight interview. Inside the Octagon, Durden leaned on his wrestling to secure his first UFC win. He landed 5-of-10 takedown attempts which resulted in 5:39 worth of control time. Durden lacks a standout physical skill, instead relying on grit and determination to emerge successful. When you add in the fact Durden's post-fight antics won't earn him any supporters among the UFC brass, you have a fighter with a questionable future despite this win.
Next fight booked
August 25, 2021
Durden will take on Aori Qileng in a flyweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for Nov. 20, MMA Island reports.
Durden is 0-1-1 in two UFC fights following his first-round submission loss to Jimmy Flick last December. He'll be giving up approximately two inches in reach to Qileng, who also came up short in his UFC debut, dropping a unanimous decision to Jeff Molina in April.
Battling knee injury
December 22, 2020
Durden was hit with a 180-day medical suspension due to a right knee injury Tuesday, reports.
Durden suffered the injury during his submission defeat against Jimmy Flick on Saturday. He could return before 180 days are up if cleared by a doctor but will still miss a minimum of 30 days.
Crushing defeat in Vegas
December 19, 2020
Durden lost to Jimmy Flick via submission (flying triangle choke) at 3:18 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
It's a crushing loss for Durden in a fight in which he entered as an underdog (+135) and looked solid prior to the stoppage. Durden pounded Flick in the early going to the tune of a 30-7 edge in total strikes landed, in addition to scoring on both of his takedown attempts before Flick clamped on the choke. Durden is still looking for his first win with the company, going 0-1-1 thus far. He joined the UFC on a seven-fight win streak, all of which came via stoppage.
Reason for cancellation clarified
December 5, 2020
Durden couldn't gain clearance for an eye issue, leading to the cancellation of his scheduled fight against Jimmy Flick at UFC Vegas 16 on Saturday, Mike Heck of reports.
This isn't expected to be a long-term issue for Durden. The promotion has rescheduled the fight to take place at the UFC event Dec. 19. Durden will be making his first start since August 1.
