Marlon Vera
Withdraws from UFC 235
February 27, 2019
Vera has been scratched from UFC 235 due to illness, UFC announced Wednesday.
With the bout approaching quickly on March 2, the Ecuadorian fighter had to withdraw and won't be able to appear in Las Vegas. It's likely they'll be looking for a new fighter to replace him against Frankie Saenz, but it's unclear if that search will be successful in such a short time period.

Fighting at UFC 235
January 11, 2019
Vera will fight Thomas Almeida at UFC 235 on March 2, Guilherme Cruz of reports.
Vera had a strong 2018, going undefeated against the likes of Wuliji Buren and Guido Cannetti. He'll now look to take advantage of a struggling Almeida, who's lost three of his last four.
Gets comeback finish Saturday
November 17, 2018
Vera defeated Guido Cannetti via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:31 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night 140 on Saturday in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Canneti hurt Vera more than once in the first round with his pressure striking but Vera answered the call in the second frame, swarming his opponent and landing a huge knee in the clinch that led to the end of the fight. Vera has now put together back-to-back stoppages in The Octagon but his tendency to lay back and let his opponent set the pace is a troubling one. The 27-year-old has the tools to be a very good UFC fighter but he will continue to face an uphill battle as long as he puts himself behind early in fights. Vera moves to 12-5-1 in professional MMA as a result of the victory.
Next fight booked in Argentina
October 23, 2018
Vera will take on Guido Cannetti in a bantamweight matchup at UFC Argentina on Nov. 17, reports.
Vera recently bounced back from a two-fight skid with an impressive body shot KO over Wuliji Buren at UFC 227, which brought up his record to 11-5-1 as a professional. He'll hold height and reach advantages over Cannetti, a southpaw, and is also nearly 13 years younger. While the striking numbers seem to lean towards Vera (at least in terms of volume), Cannetti does boast slightly better takedown marks over a shorter sample size. Cannetti also has the intangible factor in play, fighting in front of his home town in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Stops Wuliji Buren with a body shot at UFC 227
August 4, 2018
Vera defeated Wiliji Buren via TKO (body shot) at 4:53 of Round 2 at UFC 227 on Saturday in Los Angeles.
Vera came into this fight as a huge favorite. He had some trouble in the first round, but he took over in the second round. Towards the end of the round, he closed the distance with a body shot. It folded Buren and the finish came shortly afterwards. Prior to this fight, Vera had lost back-to-back fights, but he got back on track here.
Accepts late invitation to UFC 227

Vera is slated to take on Wuliji Buren at UFC 227 on August 4, Danny Segura of reports.
The Ecuadorian will slide into the place of Bharat Kandare who was previously scheduled to fight Buren. Vera dropped each of his last two bouts but enters the fight with a 10-5-1 career record.
