New opponent surfaces quickly
August 1, 2019
Sanchez will now take on Marvin Vettori in a middleweight matchup at UFC Vancouver on Sept. 14, Damon Martin of reports.
Sanchez was originally scheduled to take on David Branch, but on the same day Branch's withdrawal was announced, UFC matchmakers have already set him up with a replacement opponent. Sanchez will hold an edge in striking volume over Vettori, though he does tend to get hit a bit more over his six-fight UFC tenure. In terms of grappling, Sanchez has the edge in both takedown volume and takedown defense, as "El Dirte" has yet to be taken down during his time with the company. Sanchez may not be ranked at the moment, but pushing his winning streak to three could very well land him someone in the top-15 at 185 pounds.
Needs new opponent in Vancouver
August 1, 2019
Sanchez is in need of a new opponent for UFC Vancouver on Sept. 14 after David Branch (undisclosed) will be forced to withdraw, Nolan King of reports.
Sanchez had been looking to add to his winning streak against a former World Series of Fighting two-division champion, but those plans will now be put on hold. Should he decide to remain on the card, the UFC should have plenty of time to find him a replacement with the event scheduled more than six weeks down the road.
To take on David Branch
June 13, 2019
Sanchez has been booked to fight David Branch at UFC on ESPN+ 16 on September 14, Nolan King of reports.
Sanchez is coming off back-to-back victories in the octagon, both coming via unanimous decision. Most recently, he took down Marc-Andre Barriault at UFC Fight Night 151 back in May, which improved his UFC record to 4-2. Contrary to Branch, who hasn't gone the distance in a fight since May of 2017, Sanchez has succeeded best when he does go the distance, presenting an interesting contrast of styles for the September bout.
Silences crowd in Ottawa
May 4, 2019
Sanchez defeated Marc-Andre Barriault via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Ottawa.
A win is a win, but Sanchez's performance was nothing to write home about. He essentially took Round 2 off and a pair of early successful takedowns were the only thing that propelled him to victory. Six fights into his UFC career, Sanchez has proven to be a quality wrestler with little finishing power in his hands. He has enough ability to beat lesser fighters, but there's zero reason to believe Sanchez is a legitimate threat at 185 pounds.
Facing newcomer Barriault in Ottawa
February 20, 2019
Sanchez (10-4-0) will fight Marc-Andre Barriault (11-1-0) in a middleweight bout May 4 at UFC Ottawa, Aaron Bronsteter of reports.
Sanchez, the winner of the Ultimate Fighter 23, will have the edge in experience versus Barriault, a Quebec native who will be making his UFC debut after a recent stint in the TKO Major League MMA, a Canadian promotion. "El Dirte" last fought in August at UFC Lincoln, defeating Markus Perez via unanimous decision.
