Moves to defensive end
April 8, 2020
McLendon converted from tight end to defensive end over the offseason and will enter fall camp listed as a starter on LSU's depth chart, Brody Miller of The Athletic reports.
McLendon joined LSU last season as a transfer from JUCO program Copiah-Lincoln and filled a depth role at tight end behind Thaddeus Moss, catching one pass for 12 yards. Even with Moss bound for the NFL, the LSU coaching staff determined his athletic, 6-foot-5, 263-pound frame would make him a better fit as an edge rusher. McLendon has apparently taken well to the position change, as he's already surged up the depth chart heading into his redshirt junior season. He's expected to start at the left end spot opposite Justin Thomas when LSU kicks off its season Sept. 5 versus Texas-San Antonio.
