Holton Ahlers
QuarterbackQB
2020 Fantasy Outlook
Ahlers took major strides in his second year as a starter, as he improved from completing 48.3 percent of his passes to 59.7. Although, he also was a little more reckless with the ball, as he went from throwing only three interceptions to throwing 10. Granted, he also improved from 12 passing touchdowns to 21, and he added six more on the ground. All in all, we’ll call that an improvement. When you see Ahlers operating at his peak, like when he threw for 498 yards and six touchdowns on the road against SMU, it’s hard not to be excited about the potential in Ahlers’ arm heading into 2020. Takes foot of pedal in victory
November 22, 2020
Ahlers went 11-for-22 with 182 yards, two touchdowns and a pick with six rushes for 70 yards and a touchdown against Temple on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
East Carolina found themselves in an unfamiliar position for most of the game as they took the lead in the first quarter and never gave it up. As a result, the Pirates didn't have to look through the air nearly as much as they usually do when the play catchup, leaving Ahlers short of at least 29 pass attempts for only the third time in seven outings. What he lacked in passing he was able to make up for in rushing with a season-high 70 yards and his first ground touchdown of the year. Next week East Carolina will face SMU to finish the regular season.

2019 Fantasy Outlook
Ahlers is the “You Don’t Want To See How The Sausage Gets Made” fantasy asset. During his stretch as the starter last season, he averaged the fifth-most fantasy points. That was despite posting a 50.6 completion rate and a 6.9 YPA. Rushing ability helped, but the major factor was volume as he averaged 46.2 passes per game. A red flag comes in the form of a new coaching staff that ran 68.4 plays per game last season. For a player as reliant on volume as Ahlers, an extreme play count reduction could expose his flaws and crater his value.
