During his sophomore season (2016-17), Mathews was a permanent fixture in the starting lineup and averaged 20.4 points, 5.6 boards, 2.3 assists and 2.8 three-pointers. In his junior year, Mathews led the Bisons to their first ever NCAA Tournament. After his senior season (2018-19), Mathews was named to the All-ASUN First Team and honored as the ASUN Player of the Year.
