Personal Bio

Wesley Deshawn Iwundu was born in Houston, Texas in 1994. His parents are Larry and Marilyn Williams. Iwundu has two older siblings, Chris and Kim. Iwundu played high school basketball at Westfield High School in Houston. In college at Kansas State, Iwundu was named three times to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll. He had a 4.0 GPA in the spring of 2017 and made the Academic All-Big 12 First team as a senior. Iwundo earned his bachelor's degree in family studies and human services. Fans can follow Iwundo on Twitter (@_Iwundu25) and Instagram (@and1ref_).

College/International Summary

Iwundu was a consistent contributor in each of his four years with the Kansas State Wildcats, appearing in a total of 132 games and starting 24 or more each year. He saved his best for his senior season in 2016-17, posting career highs in scoring (13.0 PPG) and rebounding (6.3 RPG). It was enough to earn the forward Third-Team All-Big 12 honors for the second consecutive year. He also got a taste of postseason success in his senior year, as the Wildcats made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since his freshman year and even picked up a First Four win over Wake Forest (before losing to Cincinnati in the opening round). Iwundu was chosen in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2017 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic.

ANALYSIS
Iwundu spent the first three years of his career on the Magic. Last season, he averaged 5.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 18.3 minutes. The soon-to-be 26-year-old figures to see a similar, if not reduced, role with his new team. As a result, Iwundu can be ignored in the vast majority of fantasy formats.

2019

In his third NBA season, Iwundu appeared in 52 games for the Magic, averaging 5.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.5 steals in a career-high 18.3 minutes. Iwundu made his first start of the season on Dec. 30 against the Hawks, playing 25 minutes and registering four points. He scored in double-figures eight times, including posting a season-high 19 points in a win over the Lakers on Jan. 15. Against the Nets on Aug. 11, Iwundu had 18 points, five rebounds and three assists in 30 minutes. Two nights later, in a seeding-game win over the Pelicans, Iwundu posted 15 points, a season-high six assists and four rebounds. Against Washington on Jan. 8, the Kansas State product grabbed a season-high seven rebounds, adding seven points, two assists and one steal. In the postseason, Iwundu appeared in all five first-round games against the Bucks, averaging 4.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 15.0 minutes per contest. In Game 3, he saw a playoff-career-high 24 minutes and finished with six points, three assists, two rebounds, a steal and a block.

2018

Iwundu's second season in the NBA season saw him set new career-highs in both games played (68) and games started (13). Iwundu averaged 5.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 18.1 minutes per game. The 24 year-old scored a career-high 16 points on 7-of-7 shooting against Toronto on April 1. He scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds on March 17 in a 101-91 win over Atlanta. Iwundu grabbed a career-high eight rebounds, while also scoring seven points, on Nov. 11 against New York. He improved his three-point shooting to 36.7 percent for the season, making 29 of his 79 attempts from behind the arc. Iwundu also hit better than 81 percent of his free throw attempts after shooting 72.3 percent from the line as a rookie. In the postseason, Iwundu saw action in all five of Orlando's first-round games against Toronto. In Game 5, Iwundu notched a playoff career-high 12 points on 3-of-5 shooting, while hitting all five of his free throw attempts.

2017

A second-round pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Iwundu worked his way into Orlando's rotation as a rookie wing player. The Kansas State product appeared in 62 games, picking up 12 starts. In 16.5 minutes per contest, the 23-year-old averaged 3.7 points and 2.2 rebounds. Iwundu shot 42.7 percent from the field and 72.3 percent from the free-throw line. Defensively, he recorded 1.2 steals per 36 minutes. Iwundu made his first start of the season on Dec. 13, and he saw his playing time increase as the season went along. After averaging just 6.2 minutes per game in October and 4.1 minutes per game in November, he saw that number spike to 15 minutes per night in December. Iwundu averaged better than 15 minutes per game the rest of the way. He scored a season-high 12 points in 25 minutes of action against Washington on Dec. 23. Iwundu matched that output in a loss to Cleveland on Jan. 6. He grabbed a season-high seven rebounds on two different occasions.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2019
2018
Iwundu saw a slightly larger role in his second NBA season with the Magic, averaging 5.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists across 18.1 minutes per game -- improvements from his rookie season. With Orlando dealing with a number of injuries in the frontcourt last year, Iwundu was thrust into a larger role than he likely expected, and he ended up seeing a big improvement in his jump shot, shooting 36.7 percent from three. The Magic's personnel has remained relatively unchanged compared to last season outside of the signing of Al-Farouq Aminu to a three-year contract this offseason, which will likely have a direct impact on Iwundu's playing time to start this season. As a result, Iwundu's value heading into his third NBA season remains rather limited, as Aminu, in addition to Terrence Ross, Jonathan Isaac and Evan Fournier, will all take precedence over the 24-year-old. Iwundu's numbers compared to last season will likely remain fairly static.
The 33rd overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Iwundu appeared in 62 games for the Magic last season, including 12 starts. However, he gained most of his playing time through the myriad of injuries Orlando’s roster endured, plus some tanking efforts. Assuming the team is healthier in 2018-19, Iwundu may struggle to reach the 16.5 minutes per game he saw during his rookie campaign, especially since he didn't shine much during his playing time. He averaged 3.7 points and 2.2 rebounds while shooting 42.7 percent from the field, 19.6 percent from three and 72.3 percent from the charity stripe. It seems safe to avoid Iwundu in Fantasy this season, even in most deep formats.
