Thunder Visit Warriors
The Oklahoma City Thunder will visit the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena on Wednesday.

Both teams are coming off disappointing losses, with the Thunder (10-6) fresh off a narrow 117-113 loss to the Sacramento Kings. OKC nearly stole the win, cutting the deficit from nine points with 37 seconds remaining to just two points with five seconds left. However, the lack of time left the Thunder unable to sneak away with the win. Still, OKC saw strong play from its two All-Stars. Russell Westbrook returned from a mild ankle injury and the birth of his twin daughters to score 29 points and grab 13 rebounds. Paul George, meanwhile, scored 27 points and hit a clutch three to cut the deficit to just two in the final seconds. Though they could not produce a win on Saturday, the duo of Westbrook and George has been an effective one this season. Westbrook is averaging 24.9 points on 48.8 percent shooting while also dishing out 8.3 assists and collecting 8.9 rebounds per game. George, meanwhile, trails not far behind, averaging 24.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.4 steals per game. George’s active defense has played a major part in the team’s success. OKC boasts the fourth-highest defensive rating in the NBA this season.

Golden State (12-6) finds itself in an unfamiliar position, ranking just fourth in the Western Conference through the early part of the season. The last two weeks have been one of the toughest in recent memory for the defending champs. The Warriors are coming off consecutive losses to the Mavericks and Spurs, and they remain without two-time MVP Steph Curry (groin). Moreover, drama surrounding the team cropped up due to a dispute between All-Star forwards Kevin Durant and Draymond Green. The incident resulted in a team-ordered one-game suspension for Green. Though Golden State still boasts a 12-6 record, it has seen uncharacteristically average defensive play early on. While the Warriors once again rank first in the league in offensive rating (116.3), they are just 17th on the defensive end. Wednesday will provide a test for the Curry-less Warriors, as they face one of the league’s top teams.
