Inks NRI deal with Boston
The Red Sox signed Westbrook to a minor-league contract Monday with an invitation to major-league spring training.
ANALYSIS
Westbrook is 28 years old and has yet to appear in a big-league game, but he posted an impressive .294/.400/.496 slash line with 21 home runs over 496 plate appearances last season with the Triple-A affiliate of the Yankees. He'll function as organizational infield depth for Boston leading into the 2024 campaign.

2016 Fantasy Outlook
Westbrook has cited Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia as an inspiration, and it’s easy to see why. Like Pedroia, Westbrook plays second base. And also like Pedroia, Westbrook stands just 5-foot-9 while weighing 170 pounds. He has already shown that he has some power in his small frame. Last year at High-A Visalia the 20-year-old belted 17 home runs and collected 72 RBI in 527 plate appearances while batting .319. Westbrook also stole 14 bases in 18 attempts. A fifth-round pick in 2013 from the Arizona high school ranks, Westbrook figures to move up the organizational ladder to Double-A Mobile this year after his strong 2015. Not considered an elite prospect, Westbrook could still have sneaky value down the road if he continues to hit for some power and swipe bases from the second base position. Not unlike that guy up in Boston.
