Andreescu's agent, Jonathan Dasnieres de Veigy, confirmed Monday that his client has withdrawn from her next three tournaments due to a left leg injury, The Canadian Press reports. Andreescu is targeting a return to competition at the Miami Open, which begins March 23.
ANALYSIS
After being sidelined for 15 months while recovering from a torn meniscus in her left knee, Andreescu made her return to competitive action at the Australian Open earlier in February at the Australian Open. The 20-year-old unsurprisingly looked rusty during her time at Melbourne, falling to Su-Wei Hsieh. Andreescu remained in Australia to compete for the Phillip Island Trophy event, ultimately losing to Marie Bouzkova in the semifinals. Considering three of her four matches at the Phillip Island Trophy tournament lasted at least two and a half hours, she's presumably just dealing with some routine soreness in her surgically repaired leg. She'll take the next few weeks off to work on conditioning before returning to action in Miami.
