Olli Maatta: First Career Power-Play Goal Friday

Posted on February 7, 2014 at 7:47 PM

Maatta potted his first career power-play goal and set up James Neal's game-tying score with a no-look pass against the Rangers on Friday.

Maatta stands to benefit from an increased role with Kris Letang out indefinitely, if not for the remainder of 2013-14. His ice time increased from an average of 17:43 to 21:17 on Friday. Even though his goal came as a member of the second power-play unit, the score makes a statement about how much Pittsburgh believes in him. The rookie now has six goals and 23 points in 57 games.
