December brought us the exciting news that Front Row Motorsports was expanding back to three teams after a few seasons racing as a two-team stable. Team owner Bob Jenkins purchased the distressed assets of the former BK Racing and the No. 23 team. Most importantly he acquired that team's charter. The new team will be the FRM No. 36 Ford and they've hired youngster Tifft to pilot the car in its first season. As of this writing, sponsorship and crew chief have not been announced, but will likely be named later in January. The 22-year-old driver is coming off two straight seasons of racing in the Xfinity Series for Richard Childress Racing. Tifft earned 32 combined Top-10 finishes and seventh- and sixth-place finishes in the points those two seasons. He's been racing highly competitive regional and national touring series since the age of 17, so he's well prepared for this promotion. Still, there is lots to learn in Tifft's first season of Cup racing. It will likely be a bumpy affair.

Tifft swapped from Joe Gibbs Racing to Richard Childress Racing over the off-season. He nabbed 13 Top-10 finishes last season in the No. 19 Toyota and wound up a respectable seventh in the overall final driver standings of 2017. Now he'll take the wheel of the No. 2 Chevy Camaro of RCR. The 21-year-old driver only has 44 starts of experience in Xfinity Series racing, so Tifft still has lots to learn. However, the pairing with this race team and organization should keep his trajectory pointed north. Of the many Childress teams the No. 2 camp has recently shown to be the fastest and most consistent of the camp. That's a good sign for Tifft's continued development.

With Kyle Busch and a driver rotation firmly set in the JGR No. 18, and with Daniel Suarez and another rotation set for the No. 20, that leaves Tifft to likely occupy the team's No. 19 Toyota. It hasn't been announced for sure as of this writing, but it's kind of a process of elimination. Tifft has spent the last two seasons competing on a part-time basis in the Camping World Truck Series and the Xfinity Series for Joe Gibbs and Kyle Busch. Over that span hea's amassed two Top-5 and 14 Top-10 finishes in 33 starts. Tifft hasn't set the world on fire, but the 20-year-old driver is ready to take the next step in his development. Hea's going to get a fantastic opportunity racing for one of the strongest stables in this division of NASCAR. Tifft will be teamed with crew chief Matt Beckman and the two will look to make some waves in the young driver's first full season. The potential here is great for this driver and team, but the learning curve will also be steep.

Hospitalized at Martinsville

Tifft was transported to a local hospital before Saturday's opening Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice at Martinsville Speedway. Matt Crafton filled in for the Front Row Motorsports No. 36 team for practice and was expected to be in the seat for the rest of the day, NASCAR.com reports.
