Mutually parting ways with team
Gander Outdoors Truck
June 1, 2021
Peters and Rackley W.A.R. have mutually agreed to part ways effective immediately, Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Peters signed with the new team back in January, but it wasn't exactly what what Rackley W.A.R. had expected apparently. Through 10 races, Peters sat 21st in the Truck Series points standings and failed to record any top-10 finishes. Peters had not competed full-time since 2016 prior to this season. The team announced that Josh Berry will run the next three upcoming races at Texas, Nashville, and Pocono. It's not clear if Berry will take over full-time the rest of the season, but he is looking for a ride once Sam Mayer reaches 18-years-old on June 26 and takes over the No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro for JR Motorsports.

The veteran driver raced the first 10 events of last season with Rackley W.A.R. in the No. 25 truck. The results fell short of expectations and he parted ways with the team last June. No plans have been announced for Peters in 2022. He enters the season a free agent driver.
The veteran driver ends four seasons of part-time racing in the Camping World Truck Series and resumes full-time competition in 2021. Peters was a late-January announcement of signing with new race team, Rackley W.A.R. He'll drive the team's No. 25 Chevy in the full schedule, with crew chief help from veteran Chad Kendrick. Peters is a veteran of almost 250 starts in this division of NASCAR with 11-career victories. He's a very capable driver and gives this small race team a real asset behind the wheel.
Made just four starts for this Niece Motorsports race team in 2019, but picked up a pair of Top-10 finishes. The veteran driver is likely to race a similar schedule in 2020.
Made five starts split between two race teams last year. Peters grabbed a surprising and emotional win for GMS Racing at Talladega in those starts. Named to drive the No. 44 Chevrolet for Niece Motorsports in the first three events of the 2019 season. Peters' schedule beyond those starts is yet to be determined.
Peters is a free agent driver in 2018.
At 36-years-old Peters is one of the grizzled veterans of the Camping World Truck Series. At the completion of last season, he crossed the 230-start plateau which places him among the most seasoned drivers in the series. Of the full-time drivers, only Matt Crafton has more starts. Peters posted no victories last season, which snapped a seven-season winning streak for the Red Horse Racing driver. However, his consistency was spot on with eight Top-5 and 16 Top-10 finishes. That’s in line with levels of performance over the bulk of his career. RHR is expected to pair Peters with a new crew chief in 2017, possibly Chad Kendrick. It’s a move that is hoped to spur Peters back into victory lane and into possible championship contention. We’ll have to see how it all plays out, but we tend to think of Peters’ 2016 numbers as the floor level going forward.
After another strong season at Red Horse Racing, Peters returns for another full slate in 2016. This year he’ll team with new crew chief Shane Huffman and continue the quest for that elusive Camping World Truck Series championship. The 34-year-old driver posted two wins and 16 Top-10 finishes last season en route to a fifth-place finish in the final driver standings. Peters has put up numbers similar to these for the last seven-straight seasons. He’s become about as predictable a driver as there is in this division of NASCAR, however, he still lacks that little boost to become a serious title contender. That could happen in the coming season.
Peters carried the flag high for Toyota in 2012. He will return to the Red Horse Racing team that he claimed two victories and 10 Top-5 finishes with last season. At 32-years of age Peters is becoming one of the “elders” of the truck series. He sports the 140 starts of experience that you’d expect from a driver his age. This team should return mostly intact from their runner-up points finish of last year, so the No. 17 team should be hungry to get that championship trophy. With five victories and 57 Top-10 finishes in the last four seasons combined, Peters has been one of the more consistent drivers in the Camping World Truck Series for some time.
