Losing streak hits three
MiddleweightUFC
July 16, 2022
Grant lost to Dustin Stoltzfus via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-28) at UFC on ABC 3 on Saturday on Long Island.
ANALYSIS
Grant moved up to middleweight here in hopes of finding his form. He managed to hang around, but it wasn't a particularly inspiring effort. To the shock of no one, Grant did his best work in Round 1 when he was able to remain upright. He gave up a takedown to Stoltzfus in each of the final two frames and spent a considerable time in each round on his back as a result. Grant's gas tank also appeared poor, which is somewhat surprising considering he had an easier weight cut than usual for this one. Grant will be turning 38 years of age this coming September and has lost three fights in a row dating back to October 2021. There is certainly no guarantee he gets a fourth opportunity with the company.

Stoltzfus up next
MiddleweightUFC
June 1, 2022
Grant will face Dustin Stoltzfus in a middleweight fight at a UFC event on July 16, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
The two fighters did not fight in the same weight class their previous fights, with Grant fighting in welterweight and Stoltzfus fighting in middleweight. Grant stands one inch taller than Stoltzfus, while also sporting a 1.5 inch reach advantage. Grant will have to keep the fighters on their feet, with Stoltzfus averaging 1.7 takedowns landed per 15 minutes, though only success on 33 percent of his attempts.
Finished late in Round 2
MiddleweightUFC
April 23, 2022
Grant lost to Sergey Khandozhko via TKO (punches) at 4:15 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
In a fight in which both men swung for the bleachers with every single shot they threw, it was Grant who folded first. Both fighters scored a knockdown in the opening frame, with Grant landing the more impactful shots throughout the course of the round. He appeared to have a real chance at a stoppage, but Khandozkho was able to close the distance and hang on until the round ended. Grant appeared to slow down considerably as the fight progressed, and by the latter stages of Round 2, referee Chris Tognoni had seen enough. Grant is typically durable, as this was just the second knockout defeat of his pro career, but he'll also be 38 years of age this coming September, and it's fair to wonder if this is a sign of things to come. The very definition of roster depth, Grant has posted a 3-4 mark in his first seven UFC bouts. On the bright side, he'll take home a $50,000 bonus after this back-and-forth affair was awarded Fight of the Night honors.
Slated to fight in April
MiddleweightUFC
February 2, 2022
Grant will take on Sergey Khandozhko in a welterweight bout at the UFC event April 23, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport Nederland reports.
ANALYSIS
Coming off of a loss to Francisco Trinaldo in October, Grant will return to the octagon in April. The loss was via split decision and could have been potentially ruled a draw. Grant will look to improve upon his 23 percent strike rate from his last fight and get back in the win column when he takes on Khandozho, who has not fought since 2019 after withdrawing from his last two opportunities.
Sees another split decision
MiddleweightUFC
October 23, 2021
Grant lost to Francisco Trinaldo via split decision (27-29, 29-27, 27-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
What a weird fight. More likely than not this should have been a draw, so in that sense, Grant is unfortunate. Everything appeared to be fairly straightforward in terms of scoring, with Trinaldo taking Rounds 1 and 3 and Grant taking Round 2, although a point deduction for Trinaldo in the final frame for an eye poke should have resulted in the draw. As far as Grant goes, it's difficult to win a fight when you land just 23 percent (41-145) of your total strikes. In one of the most baffling statistics in recent memory, four of Grant's first six UFC bouts have gone to a split decision. The 37-year-old Brooklyn native is 2-2 in those fights and 3-3 overall.
Getting new opponent
MiddleweightUFC
September 23, 2021
Grant will now take on Francisco Trinaldo in a welterweight bout at the UFC event Oct. 23, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Grant's original opponent, Gabriel Green, was forced to withdraw due to an undisclosed reason. Trinaldo last was in the Octagon back in June when he defeated Muslim Salikhov by unanimous decision. Grant is coming off a split decision win over Stefan Sekulic.
