Undergoes foot surgery
November 5, 2020
Aldana underwent surgery on her broken left foot last week, reports.
Aldana apparently picked up the injury two days prior to her fight against Holly Holm in early October, which she went on to lose via unanimous decision. She expects to be able to return early in 2021.
Doesn't cut it against top contender
October 3, 2020
Aldana lost to Holly Holm via unanimous decision (44-5, 45-50, 45-50) at UFC Fight night on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
Aldana spent much of the first round searching for a body kick, but Holm constantly circled away out of danger. Holm was able to work in several combinations and even executed a takedown in the fading moments of Round 1. Aldana landed a hard right hand early in the second, but Holm's strikes were already starting to accumulate, and Aldana was wearing it on the right side of her face. Holm took her down with around two minutes left, but Aldana was able to get back up (although she paid the price for it with more leg strikes). Just when it looked like Aldana was going to get some momentum in Round 3, Holm countered with another takedown. She eventually moved to full mount and started pouring strikes on Aldana. It looked for a moment like Holm could be in line for the TKO, but Aldana slipped away and got back up to her feet. Round 4 was more of the same, with Aldana chasing a circling Holm with little success, eating kicks and getting taken down again along the way. Aldana didn't have much left in Round 5, with Holm again getting the best of all striking exchanges. Holm added another takedown for good measure, plus met Aldana with a massive head kick on the way up. Aldana showed heart in not getting finished, but that was about all that went her way here. It's back to the drawing board for the 32-year-old.
Receives new fight date
August 16, 2020
Aldana (illness) will now take on Holly Holm in a bantamweight matchup at a UFC event scheduled for Oct. 3.
Aldana was set to face Holm at the beginning of August, but Aldana was forced to withdraw after she tested positive for COVID-19. However, she should be healthy heading into the matchup in early October as the pair of fighters will still get the change to face off. Aldana is coming off wins in five of her last six matchups, while Holm has alternated wins and losses in each of her past six fights.
Positive COVID-19 test confirmed
July 27, 2020
Aldana's withdrawal from her scheduled Aug. 1 fight against Holly Holm was called off after Aldana tested positive for COVID-19, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
Aldana had been in line for what was pegged as a pick'em fight against a top bantamweight contender, and a win would have gotten her in the title conversation. Instead, she'll be sidelined for an uncertain amount of time before this matchup presumably gets rescheduled. This was scheduled to serve as the main event of the Aug. 1 card, but instead, a three-round matchup between Derek Brunson and Edmen Shahbazyan will take its place.
Holm bout rescheduled
July 22, 2020
Aldana's fight against Holly Holm has been rescheduled to a later date in 2020, Damon Martin of reports.
UFC has yet to announce the new date, but Aldana's fight for Aug. 1 will not take place. Derek Brunson versus Edmen Shahbayzan is the new main event for that card. Aldana has won five of her last six matches.
