Gets fight in home country
July 28, 2019
Aldana will take on Marion Reneau in a bantamweight matchup at UFC Mexico City on Sept. 21, reports.
Aldana recently dropped a narrow decision to Raquel Pennington to snap a three-fight losing streak, but a win over a fellow top-10 bantamweight would put the 31-year-old back on the right track. She'll get to do so on home turf against an opponent over a decade older, plus she'll own slight height and reach advantages on fight night. Furthermore, Aldana sports far superior striking volume and defensive grappling numbers, albeit over a smaller sample size.
Drops decision to UFC vet
July 20, 2019
Aldana lost to Raquel Pennington via split decision (28-29, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC San Antonio on Saturday.
Looking to bounce back from a win over Bethe Correia that left much to be desired, Aldana came out with a lot of volume but had a very difficult time connecting against the UFC veteran. She simply didn't have the range calculated and ended up hitting air more often than not, landing just one of her first 40 strike attempts. Aldana started connecting more effectively in the second with both low kicks and big right hand early, but it was Pennington that did more consistent damage. Aldana did manage to stuff multiple takedown attempts and may have even won the second round, but still emerged from the period wearing more damage. With it possibly tied heading into the third, Pennington secured a takedown early but Aldana threatened with a leg lock that eventually turned into a calf slicer. Pennington played intelligent defense in order to avoid any serious trouble and made Aldana carry most of her weight along the way. It was a bad look for Aldana in the eyes of the judges, as Pennington ended up in top position for most of the round. The loss snaps a three-fight winning streak for Aldana.
Quick turnaround in San Antonio
May 17, 2019
Aldana will take on Raquel Pennington in a bantamweight matchup at UFC San Antonio on July 20, Alexander K. Lee of reports.
Aldana is fresh off a come-from-behind win against Bethe Correia at UFC 237, resulting in her third consecutive victory. She'll take on a much more experienced opponent in Pennington, who has been fighting elite bantamweights her entire career but suffered back-to-back losses to finish 2018. Aldana has thrown a much higher striking volume over a shorter sample size, but Pennington sports far superior striking defense numbers. Aldana will enter with slight edges in both height and reach.
Fortunate to win at UFC 237
May 11, 2019
Aldana defeated Bethe Correia via submission (arm bar) at 3:24 of Round 3 at UFC 237 on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Aldana should be plenty upset with her performance despite the victory. Facing legitimately one of the least talented fighters on the UFC roster and entering as a massive (-400) favorite, it took a dreadful error from Correia in order for Aldana to emerge victorious. She struggled to find her range on the feet for the vast majority of the bout, and only a horrifically-timed takedown attempt from Correia allowed Aldana to clamp on the arm bar that ended the fight. The 31-year-old is now on a three-fight win streak, but there doesn't seem to be much upside here.
Booked for UFC 237
February 20, 2019
Aldana will take on Bethe Correia at UFC 237 in Brazil on May 11, Guilherme Cruz of reports.
Aldana was booked to fight Correia last August at UFC 227 before Correia was forced to withdraw from the fight after being deemed unfit. Aldana was then booked to take on Lucia Pudilova at UFC 228, which ended in a victory via split decision. Now, with Correia expected to be fully recovered from her third eye surgery in the last two years, Aldana will look to boost her UFC record to 3-2.
