Quickly finished by Talia Santos
November 20, 2021
Wood lost to Talia Santos via submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 4:49 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
The biggest underdog on the card at +320, Wood was blown out of the water by a fighter who appears to be one of the brightest female prospects in the sport today. Known for her durability, Wood was knocked down twice before being submitted. To say Wood's UFC run is in dire straits would be an understatement. She has lost back-to-back fights, is 2-4 in her past half-dozen bouts, and turns 35 years of age two days before Christmas. Wood has simply not been able to find her footing since joining the company in December 2014, and she could be running out of time to make an impact in the UFC.
Opponent changes for next bout
October 8, 2021
Calderwood won't face Alexa Grasso on their previously scheduled bout for Nov. 20 and will now fight Taila Santos instead, according to Brett Okamoto of
There's no clarity as to why Grasso dropped out of the bout, but Santos is a tough opponent in her own right. In fact, both Calderwood and Santos are ranked in the Top 10 of the UFC in the flyweight category. Calderwood will look to end the year with a winning record since she's gone 1-1 so far in 2021.
Will take on Grasso
August 2, 2021
Calderwood will face Alexa Grasso in a flyweight matchup at a UFC event set for Nov. 20, Brett Okamoto of reports.
Calderwood has gone 1-1 this year, after defeating Jessica Eye via unanimous decision and losing to Lauren Murphy via split decision at UFC 263 in her most recent fight last June. She has been a very inconsistent fighter for the better part of the last three years and will be looking for a bounce-back effort this time around.
Drops tight decision at UFC 263
June 12, 2021
Calderwood lost to Lauren Murphy via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC 263 on Saturday in Glendale, Arizona.
It's a crushing result for Calderwood in a fight in which she could have possibly earned a title shot with a strong effort. The only clear round was the second, and that went in favor of Murphy. As expected, Calderwood appeared to be the more comfortable and fluent striker, but Murphy did a decent job of limiting her overall space and not allowing Calderwood to throw countless unanswered combinations. "JoJo" has been alternating wins and losses for the past 2.5 years. Calderwood stands a decent chance of making another run at 125 pounds given the complete lack of depth in the division, but this was a massive setback for the 34-year-old.
Taking on Lauren Murphy in June
March 27, 2021
Calderwood and Lauren Murphy agreed to a flyweight bout at UFC 263 on June 12, reports.
JoJo took down Jessica Eye via unanimous decision in January and could earn a title shot with another victory in June. Murphy defeated Liliya Shakirova via submission (rear-naked choke) to extend her win streak to four bouts back in October, and she could also garner a title shot by extending that streak.
