Gets December fight booked
MiddleweightUFC
September 29, 2020
Braga Neto will fight Deron Winn in a middleweight matchup at the UFC event Dec. 19, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Braga Neto will making his first trip to the Octagon since December of 2017 when he lost to Trevin Giles via TKO to fall to 1-2 in the UFC. Winn is also coming off a loss back in March and owns a 1-2 UFC record as well. Winn has been aggressive with his wrestling early on in his UFC career, but that will be a dangerous tactic against Braga Neto, who has accumulated seven of his nine professional wins by way of submission. Braga Neto will also enter this fight with massive advantages of seven inches in both height and reach. The long layoff here is the biggest question mark for the 32-year-old Brazilian, who would seemingly otherwise be the favorite on paper.

ANALYSIS
It's unclear what exactly is ailing the former world jiu-jitsu champion, but he'll miss out on a chance to snap a two-fight losing streak in his home country. In his stead, Markus Perez will step in to face Sanchez.

December 9, 2017
Neto lost to Trevin Giles via TKO (punches) at 2:27 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Fresno, Calif.
ANALYSIS
Neto struggled in the striking portion of this fight. Giles was able to close the distance and score at will with his punches. Neto scored a takedown in the first. He passed to the mount, and it looked like he was going to be able to finish the fight with a submission. However, Giles made the end of the round and continued to strike in the second and third rounds. About halfway through the third round, the damage began to accumulate. Giles hurt Neto and the referee stopped the bout. This was Neto's return after a nearly three-year layoff.

He was set to fight in 2015, but suffered an undisclosed injury and hasn't seen the inside of the Octagon since. The jiu-jitsu specialist has faced multiple injuries in his career but always managed to return to the game. He has seven career submission wins including one scored during his UFC debut, where he took down Anthony Smith with a kneebar in under two minutes.
