Drops decision as big favorite
July 17, 2021
Figueiredo lost to Malcolm Gordon via unanimous decision (27-30, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC on ESPN 26 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Making his second UFC appearance, Figueiredo -- who took a unanimous decision from Jerome Rivera in January -- struggled in this one despite entering as a massive -300 favorite. He had zero answers for the constant pressure of Gordon and frequently lost position on the mat despite being a noted submission specialist. It's fair to wonder if Figueiredo was overrated from the very start due to the fact his older brother Deiveson is a former UFC Flyweight Champion. He'll need a strong bounce back effort his next time out.

Figueiredo will face Malcolm Gordon at the UFC event on July 17, MMA Empire reports.
This will be Figueiredo's third new opponent for this specific fight, as Figueiredo was previously scheduled to take on JP Buys and, before that, Jimmy Flick. Figueiredo will be coming into the fight hot after defeating Jerome Rivera via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Island 8 on Jan. 20.
