Stellar effort in UFC debut
October 10, 2020
Du Plessis defeat Markus Perez via KO (punch) at 3:22 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
It took a late-notice opponent change for Du Plessis to make his UFC debut, but he quickly made the most of the opportunity. The power of Du Plessis was on full display when one short right hand quickly turned Perez's lights out. Du Plessis then followed up with a few unnecessary strikes before referee Kevin Sataki could jump in and call off the bout. It's obviously just one fight, but Du Plessis looks like a real threat inside the Octagon. His power is apparent, and he also is an excellent mat specialist (nine career wins via submission). We'll have to see how Du Plessis looks against better competition, but he's certainly worth keeping an eye on. He won't turn 27 years of age until January.
