Alves will take on Damir Ismagulov in a lightweight bout at the UFC event May 15, AgFight.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Alves was supposed to fight in February, but missed weight by an astonishing 12 pounds. That fight with Pat Sabatini was called off to no surprise. He will be making his UFC debut in May against Ismagulov who hasn't fought in the UFC since August of 2019.
Fight called off
LightweightUFC
February 19, 2021
Alves' fight against Pat Sabatini was called off Friday after Alves missed weight by 12 pounds, John Morgan of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
After a historically bad weight miss, going forward with the fight with Alves surrendering a portion of his purse was evidently deemed insufficient. Alves was reportedly intending to move up to lightweight in the near future, which will likely happen ahead of his next fight. That won't necessarily guarantee the end of his weight-cut issues, though, as he came in above even the lightweight limit Friday.

Alves missed weight Friday for his featherweight bout against Pat Sabatini, coming in at 157.5 pounds, above even the lightweight limit, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com, Alves intended for this to be his final featherweight fight before moving up to lightweight. It appears that his body decided to make the move ahead of schedule, as he came in a full 12 pounds above the limit. He'll presumably be forced to surrender a portion of his purse to Sabatini if the fight goes forward as scheduled.

ANALYSIS
Alves was in search of a new opponent after Mike Trizano was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury, and Sabatini will step in to make his UFC debut. Sabatini is a two-time featherweight champion in the CFFC and has a professional record of 13-3.
Seeking new challenger
LightweightUFC
February 8, 2021
Alves is looking for a new opponent after Mike Trizano (undisclosed) withdrew Monday from the Feb. 20 lightweight bout at UFC Vegas 19, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's uncertain whether Alves will find a new opponent in time for the event. If he enters the Octagon on Feb. 20, it will be Alves' UFC debut after the 30-year-old won a contract at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series back in August.
