Chavez lost a unanimous decision to Jared Gordon (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) at UFC Vegas 19 on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Chavez had success landing low kicks in his UFC debut, but Gordon established the low kick early and often in Saturday's matchup. Chavez had some moderate success on the feet, but Gordon's pressure, pace and grappling were too much for Chavez. Once Chavez was tired, he struggled to get up after getting taken down by Gordon. The loss can't be counted against Chavez too much, however, as he was willing to step in against an opponent who came in four pounds overweight Friday.

Chavez will proceed as planned with his scheduled featherweight matchup against Jared Gordon despite Gordon missing weight by four pounds Friday morning, John Morgan of MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It will be the second time in two opportunities with the UFC that Chavez will be facing a heavy opponent, but he was still able to take a unanimous decision from T.J. Brown the first time around. The miss is significantly worse here, but Chavez will at least receive 30 percent of Gordon's fight purse as compensation. Chavez is approximately a (-150) betting favorite for the matchup as of Friday morning.

ANALYSIS
Chavez will be looking to improve to 2-0 with the UFC after defeating T.J. Brown by unanimous decision in his promotional debut in August. Gordon is also coming off a unanimous decision victory, having defeated Chris Fishgold in July, though that followed a run of three losses in four fights.

Chavez defeated T.J. Brown via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 252 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was a strong effort from Chavez, and he took 20 percent of Brown's fight purse to boot after the latter missed weight by half a pound on Friday. While the overall striking numbers were very close, Chavez appeared to land the harder strikes. He connected with quite a few clean counter shots, in addition to connecting on all four of his takedown attempts. On top of that, he stuffed all six of Brown's tries. Chavez looked calm and comfortable in his UFC debut. Although he's too old at age 33 to be considered a legitimate prospect, Chavez showed on Saturday that he most certainly has the skills to compete in the UFC.
