Dominates in UFC debut
October 24, 2020
Maverick defeated Liana Jojua via TKO (doctor stoppage) at 5:00 of Round 1 at UFC 254 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
It was a dominant performance from Maverick in her UFC debut. Facing an opponent who clearly couldn't match her power and hand speed, Maverick strayed from her usual submission-based attack and instead went about picking Jojua apart on the feet. Maverick has some technical things she needs to work on in her striking game, but she certainly displayed legitimate power in this one. The vast majority of Maverick's future potential is tied to the fact she is just 23 years old. The fact she already has 10 professional fights under her belt at such a young age is a promising sign. Maverick is certainly worth monitoring moving forward.
Returning to Octagon vs. Jojua
September 7, 2020
Maverick (7-2-0) is slated to face Liana Jojua (8-3-0) in a flyweight fight Oct. 24 at UFC 254, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA.nl reports.
Maverick will be making her UFC debut in October after she previously had her inaugural fight with the promotion (against Mara Romero Borella) called off when she was removed from the June 27 card. Now ostensibly healthy again, Maverick will step into the Octagon for the first time against Jojua, who has split both of her decisions since joining the promotion in 2019.
Off Saturday's card
June 24, 2020
Maverick will not fight at the UFC on ESPN 12 on Saturday for an undisclosed reason, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
Maverick's removal from the card comes on short notice, leaving the UFC scrambling for a replacement to face Mara Romero Borella. Maverick will thus put off her promotion debut for a later date.
UFC debut set
June 18, 2020
Maverick is scheduled to make her UFC debut against Mara Romero Borella at UFC on ESPN 12 on June 27 in Las Vegas, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Maverick will finally get her shot after rattling off four consecutive victories in the all-female promotion Invicta FC. She most recently took a unanimous decision over former UFC fighter Pearl Gonzalez in February. She'll be at significant height and reach disadvantages against Romero Borella, who has dropped her last three fights in the Octagon.
