Gets new opponent in June
March 24, 2021
Ulanbekov will take on Tyson Nam in a flyweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for June 19, USA Today reports.
Ulanbekov took a narrow decision from Bruno Silva in his UFC debut, recording five takedowns to Silva's four and out-landing him in Rounds 2 and 3. He was supposed to follow that up with a matchup against Matheus Nicolau in March, but that matchup was ultimately called off. A Khabib Nurmagomedov protege, Ulanbekov predictably relies heavily on his grappling, though his upcoming opponent hasn't been taken down yet in five UFC fights. Nam is just 2-3 in those matchups with a 20-12-1 overall record, while Ulanbekov sports a 13-1-0 mark. Both men stand at 5-foot-7, but Ulanbekov will carry a two-inch reach advantage.

Ulanbekov's bout against Matheus Nicolau has been removed from the March 13 card, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Ulanbekov previously had to withdraw from his scheduled match against Nicolau on Fight Island in January, but the fight was then rescheduled for March. That date has now also been cancelled for undisclosed reasons.
Nicolau fight rescheduled for March

Ulanbekov's flyweight matchup against Matheus Nicolau has been rescheduled for a UFC Fight Night event on March 13, Raphael Marinho of Combate reports.
The two were originally scheduled to throw down on Fight Island on Jan. 23, but Ulanbekov was forced to withdraw from that matchup due to undisclosed reasons. He'll now look to improve to 2-0 in the UFC and build off his unanimous decision victory over Bruno Silva back in October. Early odds peg the 29-year-old as a (-175) betting favorite for the matchup.

The reason for Ulanbekov's withdrawal as well as his expected return date are not yet clear. With the withdrawal coming more than a month in advance of the Jan. 23 schedule date, Nicolau should be able to remain on the card against a new opponent.
