Unable to get on track in London
LightweightUFC
July 22, 2023
Herbert lost to Fares Ziam via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in London.
ANALYSIS
This was a close fight. So close that it's surprising none of the three judges scored it for Herbert in his native England. Jai got off second in most of the striking exchanges between the two, but he did a nice job limiting Ziam's overall space and pinning him up against the cage. Herbert was credited with 4:12 worth of control time, but he simply didn't do enough elsewhere to earn the win. Now 35 years old, Herbert has some ability, but you are what your record says you are in this sport, and Jai is sporting an ugly 2-4-1 mark in his first seven bouts with the UFC.

Taking on Ziam
LightweightUFC
April 29, 2023
Herbert will take on Fares Ziam in a lightweight fight at a UFC event on July 22, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert enters the fight after a draw in his last match. Both fighters stand at 6-foot-1, though Herbert sports a two inch reach advantage. Herbert will look to use this advantage over Ziam, averaging 2.92 strikes attempted per minute to Ziam's 1.7.
Low blows lead to draw
LightweightUFC
March 18, 2023
Herbert and L'udovit Klein fought to a majority draw (29-27, 28-28, 28-28) at UFC 286 on Saturday in London.
ANALYSIS
Herbert is going to be kicking himself following this one. There's zero question who the better man was for nearly the duration of the bout, but Herbert was docked a point by referee Rich Mitchell early in Round 3 for back-to-back low blows, and it ended up costing him the win. Herbert is a highly-talented striker and excels in open space, but his output and effectiveness drop when his opponent closes the distance. Klein struggled with that given Herbert's size advantage. Jai doesn't have much room for error given the fact he will be 35 years of age this coming May, but he there's clearly some ability here.
Fight booked for March 18
LightweightUFC
January 6, 2023
Herbert is set to fight L'udovit Klein in a lightweight bout at UFC 286 on March 18, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert, who most recently took down Kyle Nelson in July 2022, will face off with L'udovit Klein in March. The 34-year-old fighter, who currently holds a record of 2-3 in the UFC, will look to stay hot against Klein at UFC 286.
Earns win in native England
LightweightUFC
July 23, 2022
Herbert defeated Kyle Nelson via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in London.
ANALYSIS
It was not a pretty fight by any means and certainly not a particularly promising performance from Herbert as a -280 favorite. Herbert pretty clearly dropped the opening round and won the final frame, so the fact he got stronger (or Nelson got weaker) as the fight progressed is a positive sign. All three judges gave Round 2 to Jai, although it was competitive. Herbert's greatest asset is that he's a 6-foot-1 lightweight, but he doesn't fight like a tall, long guy. Herbert turned 34 years of age this past August and is now 2-3 in his first five UFC bouts. Expect him to hover around the .500 mark moving forward.
Set to fight at UFC London
LightweightUFC
June 14, 2022
Herbert will take on Kyle Nelson at UFC London on July 23, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert boasts an 11-4-0 record in the Lightweight division of the UFC, but he is coming off of a loss against Ilia Topuria on March 19. The 34-year-old will look to bounce back when he takes on Kyle Nelson July 23.
