Tanner Boser

The Bulldozer

Canada

Enters free agency with win
Light HeavyweightUFC
August 5, 2023
Boser defeated Aleksa Camur via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC on ESPN 50 on Saturday in Nashville.
ANALYSIS
Boser was knocked out by Ion Cutelaba in just over two minutes in his light heavyweight debut this past April, but he was able to get right back on track here against a less accomplished opponent in Camur. Camur was willing to engage Boser in a back-and-forth brawl, which worked out just fine for Tanner considering he had a massive technical and speed edge on the feet. Boser announced prior to the bout this was the last fight on his UFC contract. Even with the win, he's just 2-4 in his past half-dozen fights, but two of those losses have come via split decision, and he's clearly much better suited for 205 pounds as opposed to heavyweight. There doesn't seem to be any reason the two sides wouldn't be able to come to terms on a new deal.

Next fight scheduled
Light HeavyweightUFC
May 18, 2023
Boser will take on Aleksa Camur in a light heavyweight bout at a UFC event on Aug. 5, Nolan King of USA Today reports Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Boser is looking to right the ship after two consecutive losses, one at the hands of Rodrigo Nascimento and the other to Ion Cutelaba. In fact, Boser hasn't won since 2021, when he took down Ovince St. Preux with punches in the second round. His opponent, the less-experienced Camur, is also coming off two consecutive losses.
Crushed in 205 debut
Light HeavyweightUFC
April 15, 2023
Boser lost to Ion Cutelaba via TKO (punches) at 2:05 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN 44 on Saturday in Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Boser's light heavyweight debut was an unmitigated disaster, as he barely lasted two minutes in his new division. He found himself off-balance in a striking exchange between the two men and was greeted by a right hand from Cutelaba that essentially ended the fight right then and there. A takedown and a few follow-up shots later, and Boser was officially finished. Tanner has lost four of his last five dating back to November 2020, and while he theoretically is better suited to compete at 205 pounds, he may not get the chance to for very long with the UFC given his recent struggles.
Moving to light heavyweight
Light HeavyweightUFC
February 19, 2023
Boser will move down to 205 pounds and will face Ion Cutelaba in a light heavyweight matchup at UFC Kansas City, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Boser lost to Rodrigo Nascimento via split decision in September 2022 as a heavyweight, and with a 1-3 record across his last four fights, it seems moving down a category is a smart decision. He will face an opponent who's also looking to bounce back after losing his most recent bout in November last year. The fight between Boser and Cutelaba does not have a scheduled date yet.
Drops decision as favorite
Light HeavyweightUFC
September 17, 2022
Boser lost to Rodrigo Nascimento via split decision (27-30, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Wildly inconsistent over the course of his near three years with the UFC, this is the type of fight Boser needs to win as a -175 favorite, and he didn't get it. Make no mistake, the judges got this call correct. Boser was the more effective striker, connecting on 163 total strikes compared to just 91 from his opponent, but Boser gave up three takedowns, effectively eliminating any chance he had of taking a decision. Like many heavyweights, Boser is going to struggle to win fights if he isn't able to stop his opponent via strikes. With a 1-3 record in his past four fights dating back to November 2020, the 31-year-old Canadian is running out of chances.
Nascimento fight back on
Light HeavyweightUFC
June 26, 2022
Boser will face Rodrigo Nascimento in a heavyweight fight at a UFC event on September 17, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The two were originally supposed to meet in April, but Nascimento was ruled out with an injury. Boser faces a four and a half inch reach disadvantage to Nascimento, though the two fighters stand at the same 6-foot-2 inches tall. Boser certainly likes to keep his fights upright, averaging 0.0 takedown attempts per 15 minutes. He also defends well, posting a 70% takedown defense. Boser will likely focus on Nascimento's lackluster significant strike defense, which only stands at 38% while absorbing 6.14 significant strikes per minute.
