MacDonald was released by the UFC on Monday after two losses in as many fights following his promotion earlier this year, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
MacDonald lost his UFC debut to Chris Gutierrez back in March via unanimous decision and was then defeated earlier this month by Louis Smolka via TKO just 17 seconds into the first round. Those two losses were enough to get MacDonald's UFC contract terminated but the 26-year-old remains determined to earn his way back up and prove the UFC they made a mistake by releasing him.

Still winless in UFC

MacDonald lost to Louis Smolka via TKO (punch) at 4:43 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN+ 16 on Saturday in Vancouver.
ANALYSIS
MacDonald showed slight flashes of effectiveness while circling the cage, even landing 30 significant strikes at a 37 percent clip. But when it was all said and done, Smolka was simply the superior fighter. MacDonald was peppered with 27 significant strikes to the head and 31 to the body, and finally crumpled under pressure as the first round was coming to a close. He certainly looked the part of a (+190) betting underdog in this one, and his future is unclear after going 0-2 to start his UFC run.

MacDonald will face off against Louis Smolka at UFC Vancouver on Sep. 14, Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
MacDonald most recently took a loss during his UFC debut, being defeated via unanimous decision by Chris Gutierrez. As a pro, MacDonald is 10-1, with four of his wins coming by decision, three coming by submission and three coming via KO/TKO. His opponent, Smolka, is 15-6 and has won a combined 13 of his matches by either KO/TKO or submission. He lost his most recent fight to Matt Schnell via triangle choke, which is only the second time in his career that he's been defeated via submission. Smolka's other four losses have been decisions.
Gets soundly beaten in UFC debut

MacDonald lost to Chris Gutierrez via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night 148 in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Not all undefeated records are created equal, and MacDonald certainly reminded us of that Saturday, as he took a three-round drubbing from Gutierrez that likely only ended in a decision due to his opponents' lack of consistent output. MacDonald is undoubtedly tough and is an action fighter with a come-forward style but doesn't look to have anywhere near the chops to compete at this level. He falls to 10-1 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.
