Steps in to fight Schnell
April 21, 2021
Bontorin will face Matt Schnell at UFC 262 on May 15, Farah Hannoun of USA Today reports.
Bontorin last fought Kai Kara-France in early March and lost via TKO (punches) late in Round 1, and he'll re-enter the Octagon in mid-May. Schnell was originally slated to face Alex Perez (undisclosed), but Bontorin will step in as the replacement option.

Crumbles after fast start
March 6, 2021
Bontorin lost to Kai Kara-France via TKO (punches) at 4:55 of Round 1 at UFC 259 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
It's a shocking result given the fact Bontorin dominated the entire first frame and was seemingly certain to earn a 10-8 mark on the judges scorecards. He had Kara-France in multiple deep submission attempts, but the latter somehow managed to survive, and Bontorin got popped when the two returned to the feet. He was clearly in deep, deep trouble, but Kara-France appeared to single the end of the fight before referee Herb Dean and that's concerning even if that call appeared to be inevitable. Regardless, Bontorin has nobody to blame but himself here. He couldn't finish any of his submission tries, and his chin crumbled at the first sign of trouble. That's a bad combination. Bontorin has lost two in a row since winning his first couple fights with the company.
Set to face Kai Kara-France
January 9, 2021
Bontorin (ankle) will face Kai Kara-France in a flyweight matchup scheduled for March 6, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Bontorin withdrew from his most recent scheduled fight against Manel Kape in August due to an ankle injury but will be well past that issue by March. Both he and Kara-France will be looking to avoid a two-match losing streak in this one. Bontorin lost a unanimous decision against Ray Borg in February of 2020, while Kara-France was submitted in the second round by Brandon Royval in September.
Will miss fight due to ankle injury
July 22, 2020
Bontorin will not be fighting Manel Kape at the UFC event on August 15 due to an ankle injury, Marcelo Barone of Combate reports.
It's not clear at this point how long this ankle injury will keep Bontorin on the shelf. When he does get back in the Octagon, he will be making his first appearance since mid-February when he was defeated via unanimous decision by Ray Borg.
Slated for UFC 252
June 13, 2020
Bontorin is in line to face Manel Kape at UFC 252 on Aug. 15, Marcelo Barone of Combate reports.
Bontorin took his first UFC loss in a fairly one-sided match versus Ray Borg at UFC Fight Night 167 in February, but that followed a pain of victories in his first two fights. Next up is another newcomer in the promotion in Manel Kape, who will be debuting in the octagon at UFC 252. The two prospects will likely be duking it out for a more favorable position moving forward in regards to card placement and positioning within the flyweight division.
Drops first UFC bout
February 15, 2020
Bontorin lost to Ray Borg via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 25-30) at UFC Rio Rancho on Saturday.
While Borg was the fighter who came in heavy, it was Bontorin that seemed to be controlling the position in the clinch early -- that is, up until Borg reversed position and got the takedown. Despite being on his back, Bontorin registered some offense of his own while attempting to secure the arm of Borg. Bontorin threatened with the escape, but Borg landed a big right when he was about to break free and rushed in to secure another takedown. The second round was more of the same, with Borg getting a takedown early and registering over four minutes of top control. Wash, rinse and repeat in the third round, as Bontorin had little answer to Borg's grappling game. Bontorin is now 2-1 under the UFC banner.
