Matching up with Landwehr
April 21, 2021
Amirkhani will face Nate Landwehr (nose) in a featherweight bout at UFC's June 5 event, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Amirkhani last fought Edson Barboza in October and lost via unanimous decision, and he'll attempt to get back in the win column this summer. Landwehr was defeated by Julian Erosa via TKO (flying knee) in February and received a six-month medical suspension, but he will make his way back to the Octagon in June.

Drops decision to Edson Barboza
October 10, 2020
Amirkhani lost to Edson Barboza via unanimous decision (27-30, 26-30, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
This appeared to be a pretty bad matchup for Amikhani on paper, and it played out exactly that way inside the Octagon. Amirkhani is a fighter with little power who relies on his submission game to be successful, and going up against powerful striker like Barboza was a recipe for potential disaster. Amirkhani managed to land 3-of-6 takedowns attempts, but his shortcomings on the feet were ultimately his downfall. Barboza entered this fight in a massive slump, but the gap in the striking department between the two men was evident from the very start. Amirkhani has alternated wins and losses in his past six bouts going back to June 2019.
Steps in for October bout
September 27, 2020
Amirkhani will take on Edson Barboza in a featherweight bout at a UFC event scheduled for Oct. 10, reports.
Amirkhani was named as a potential replacement to face Barboza in October after Sodiq Yusuff withdrew for an undisclosed reason, and the fight was booked by the promotion Sunday. Amirkhani most recently defeated Danny Henry via submission (Anaconda Choke) at UFC 251. Barboza has dropped five of his last six fights, most recently losing to Dan Ige via split decision. Barboza has advantages in both height and reach.
UFC targeting as replacement
September 21, 2020
Amirkhani is being targeted as a possible replacement for an October 10 bout against Edson Barboza, Raphael Marinho of
Barboza's original opponent, Sodiq Yusuff had to withdraw on Monday for an undisclosed reason. The UFC is actively searching for a new opponent, but Amirkhani appears to be the frontrunner. Amirkhani last fought on July 11 when he defeated Danny Henry via submission.
Racks up another submission win
July 11, 2020
Amirkhani defeated Danny Henry via submission (Anaconda Choke) at 3:15 of Round at UFC 251 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
Easy work. Known as a premier grappler, "Mr. Finland" quickly and easily clamped on the anaconda choke that ended the fight. Henry refused to tap out before going to sleep. Amirkhani has long been an interesting fighter. He's just 3-2 in his past five bouts dating back to March 2017, but he has far more talent than that record would lead you to believe. It would be nice if Amirkhani could threaten his opposition on the feet a bit more than we have seen thus far, but he is aces on the mat. 11 of the 31-year-old's 16 career victories have come via submission.
Taking on Danny Henry at UFC 251
June 15, 2020
Amirkhani (15-4-0) is scheduled to face Danny Henry (12-3-0) in a featherweight fight July 11 at UFC 251 in Abu Dhabi, Farah Hannoun and Abbey Subhan of USA Today report.
Amirkhani and Henry have agreed to meet at 'Fight Island' in what will be the first bout for either fighter in 2020. "Mr. Finland's" most recent trip to the Octagon came back in November 2019, when he suffered a third-round loss via punches to Shane Burgos at UFC 244 in New York City. Amirkhani owns a 5-2 record since joining the UFC in January 2015.
