Knee injury confirmed
WelterweightOther
June 18, 2019
During an appearance on Ariel Helwani's MMA Show on Monday, Danis's coach John Kavanagh confirmed that his fighter suffered a torn LCL prior to his Bellator 222 victory over Max Humphrey on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Danis actually suffered the injury a week before the scheduled fight while working a technique similar to the armbar he ultimately used to defeat Humphrey. The game plan going into fight week was to weigh in, and then play it by ear for the next couple days leading up the fight. Danis ultimately decided to push through the injury and follow through with the fight, picking up his second first-round submission victory to improve his MMA record to 2-0. A return timetable is currently unclear, as Danis will now undergo testing to determine whether surgery or rehab is the best course of action. He's only 25 years old, so it would pay to take a cautious approach here.

Finally dealt punishment by NAC
WelterweightOther
February 25, 2019
Danis was handed a seven-month suspension and $7,500 fine by the Nevada Athletic Commission on Monday for his role in the UFC 229 post-fight melee, Marc Raimondi of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The suspension will be retroactive to October 6, meaning Danis will be eligible to return to competition in May, provided he pays his fine. While Danis wasn't the main instigator of the brawl, he appears to have played a role in inciting it, as he was the target of Khabib Nurmagomedov when he lept outside of the cage following his UFC 229 victory over Conor McGregor -- a teammate of Danis at SBG Ireland. According to Raimondi, the main complaint against Danis had to deal with sportsmanship, as he allegedly invited Khabib to begin the physical altercation and used several obscene gestures in the process. He also needed to be restrained multiple times by event security. When it's all said and done, the short time off and modest fine might be just a small price to pay given the name recognition that this incident has helped him achieve. He'll be free to compete under the Bellator banner in the second half of 2019.
Case not addressed at Tuesday hearing
WelterweightOther
January 29, 2019
Danis was one of the few fighters involved in the UFC 229 post-fight melee that did not have his case heard by the Nevada Athletic Commission on Tuesday, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Danis was the member of Conor McGregor's corner that Khabib Nurmagomedov had been targeting when he leaped out of the octagon following his UFC 229 victory, but no mention of his name was brought up over the course of Tuesday hearings. Nurmagomedov was hit with a $500,000 fine and nine-month suspension as a result of the incident, but it remains unclear what ramifications Danis will be facing. His case is expected to be heard by the NAC in February, Marc Raimondi of MMAFighting.com reports.
Temporary suspension extended
WelterweightOther
November 14, 2018
Danis had his temporary suspension extended by the Nevada Athletic Commission, Alexander K. Lee of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Danis is facing discipline due to his role in the post-UFC 229 brawl after allegedly using an anti-Muslim slur at Khabib Nurmagomedov, who then leapt over the cage to confront him. Moving forward, the NAC is expected to have a disciplinary hearing regarding Danis's role in either December or January.
Facing NAC discipline
WelterweightOther
November 8, 2018
Danis is facing discipline from the Nevada Athletic Commission due to his alleged role in the post-UFC 229 melee, Marc Raimondi of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Danis is seen my many as an instigator of the post-fight brawl, as he was the member of Conor McGregor's team that was targeted by Khabib Nurmagomedov when he leaped over the cage after his victory. Other than McGregor himself, nobody else from his team is facing immediate consequences. Danis is a jiu-jitsu specialist that currently competes under the banner of Bellator MMA, but does not have a fight booked at this time. That is unlikely to happen on U.S. soil until this situation is resolved, as most other states will honor the process of Nevada.
Finishes with a quick toe hold in professional debut at Bellator 198
WelterweightOther
April 28, 2018
Danis defeated Kyle Walker via submission (toe hold) at 1:38 of Round 1 at Bellator 198 on Saturday in Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Danis, an accomplished grappler, finally made his professional MMA debut here. In the fight, he failed on a pair of takedowns before pulling guard. From there, he went for an armbar and then transitioned into a leg lock position. It was clear that Walker did not know how to defend or escape. From there it was only a matter of time until Danis locked on the toe hold and finished the fight. As expected Danis won via quick submission, but his takedown game will certainly have to improve if he wants to be successful in MMA.
