Fight called off
July 31, 2020
The NSAC has ruled that the fight between Perez and Charles Ontiveros will no proceed, Mike Heck of reports.
Perez was initially scheduled for a catchweight bout with Ontiveros at 195 pounds, but it will indeed be removed from the card following the NSAC's decision. Perez will have to wait for a later date to step inside the cage for the first time since last November.
Gets late-notice replacement
July 31, 2020
Perez will now take on Charlie Ontiveros in a catchweight matchup (195 pounds) at UFC Vegas 5 on Saturday, Raphael Marinho of Combate reports.
Perez was originally thought to be off the card given the late-notice nature of Spicely's withdrawal, but the UFC will salvage this bout with a former Bellator fighter who most recently had been competing for Fury FC. While Ontiveros is moving up more than a weight class for this matchup, Perez will still be at slight height and reach disadvantages. Each of Ontiveros' last five fights have been won or lost via strikes in the first two rounds, so look for excitement early in this matchup.
Loses opponent late
July 31, 2020
Perez will no longer take on Eric Spicely at UFC Vegas 5 on Saturday following Spicely's withdrawal due to an undisclosed injury, Nolan King of reports.
With weigh-ins right around the corner, it will presumably be too late to find Perez a last-second replacement to keep him on the card Saturday. It's a tough break for the 30-year-old Brazil native, who was looking to get back in the win column as a (-225) betting favorite. Barring further complications at weigh-ins, it appears the card will proceed with 10 fights.
New fight scheduled for Aug. 1
May 30, 2020
Perez is slated to take on Eric Spicely in a middleweight matchup Aug.1 at a yet-to-be-determined location, Guilherme Cruz of reports.
Perez was scheduled to take on Alessio Di Chirico in mid-April before the UFC had to cancel events due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Perez will be looking to bounce back from his unanimous-decision loss to Wellington Turman last November, and he'll get to do so against an opponent who has lost his last four UFC bouts. Both men stand at 6-1 with a 73-inch reach. Spicely owns advantages in striking and wrestling volume, but Perez has a bit better striking defense and a superior takedown defense of 80 percent.
Added to Portland card
February 8, 2020
Perez will face Alessio Di Chirico in a middleweight bout at UFC Fight Night on April 11 in Portland, Damon Martin of reports.
Perez had an ugly loss to Wellington Turman via unanimous decision at UFC Brazil in November, but he'll have a chance to rebound against the struggling Di Chirico. The latter is coming off back-to-back defeats via unanimous decisions in 2019.
