Modafferi requires meniscus surgery and will not fight Taila Santos at the UFC's event on May 8, Eric Kowal of MyMMANews.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Modafferi has reportedly sustained a meniscus tear, so she'll need to undergo surgery and fully recover before re-entering the Octagon. The UFC may seek to reschedule her fight against Santos, but for the May 8 card a replacement flyweight fighter will need to be found.

Modafferi will square off against Taila Santos on the UFC's May 8 card, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Modafferi has alternated wins and losses in each of her fights since officially joining the promotion, and none of the bouts have gone less than the distance thus far. Santos' four fights (three wins) have all gone the full 15 minutes as well, so the expectation would be getting your money's worth for this one. Modafferi owns the edge by an inch in both height and reach over her opponent.
Outclassed on Fight Island

Modafferi lost to Viviane Araujo via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 26-30) at UFC Fight Island 8 on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Modafferi needed to get this fight to the ground in order to stay competitive, but she instead elected to stand and trade with Araujo for the better part of Round 1. She paid the price for that decision, eating both a big uppercut and right hook, the latter of which briefly sent her to the canvas. Modafferi finally attempted to take things to the mat in the final minute, but Araujo reversed position and landed some ground-and-pound before sinking in a tight choke. Modafferi barely survived. It was more of the same in Round 2, with Modafferi getting picked apart on the feet and her takedown attempts getting stuffed. She did catch Araujo with a big right hand, but it was far from enough to turn the tide, and Modafferi again finished the round on her back. A bloodied Modafferi remained game in Round 3 and even completed a takedown, but Araujo jumped back up and later secured a takedown of her own. By the closing minutes, Modafferi seemed to be the fresher fighter, but it wasn't enough to mount a comeback. "The Happy Warrior" falls to 4-6 under the UFC banner.

Targeted for Jan. 30 bout

Modaferri is being targeted for a flyweight matchup against Viviane Araujo at the UFC event scheduled for Jan. 30, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Modafferi has alternated wins and losses in her last eight fights, but is fresh off a mark in the win column after defeating Andrea Lee in September. She's now set to face a younger fighter in Araujo who is 3-1 under the UFC banner, most recently taking a decision from Montana de la Rosa in September. Modafferi enters with height and reach advantages, but Araujo has the edge in both striking and takedown volume. The latter could be an issue given the fact Modafferi sports just a 36 percent takedown defense in the UFC.
Barely gets by Andrea Lee

Modafferi defeated Andrea Lee via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This fight appeared to have split decision written all over it, but all three judges scored it exactly the same, with Modafferi winning Rounds 1 and 3 and Lee taking the second frame. A Modafferi fight is rarely pretty, and this one was no exception. It's a fight that could have gone either way, but Roxi deserves a whole bunch of credit for negating the massive speed and athleticism advantage that Lee possessed. Modafferi turns 38 years of age later this month and somehow continues to remain competitive against opponents that are many, many years her junior. It goes to show how well schooled Modafferi -- a professional since 2003 -- is in mixed martial arts. In one of the stranger stats you will ever see, Modafferi has now alternated wins and losses in her first eight UFC bouts.
