Facing Clay Guida
January 14, 2022
Puelles will take on Clay Guida on April 23, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Puelles suffered a TKO defeat in his UFC debut back in 2016 but has been on a tear since then, winning four straight matches. He most recently submitted Chris Gruetzemacher in the third round in December. His opponent, the 40-year-old Guida, has been with the UFC since 2006 and has won two of his last three fights following an extended run of mediocre results.

Picks up second UFC submission
December 6, 2021
Puelles defeated Chris Gruetzemacher via submission (kneebar) at 3:25 of Round 3 at UFC Vegas 44 on Saturday.
Puelles jumped out to an early lead in the striking department in a dominant first frame that saw him record a takedown and 4:26 worth of control time. The second round was a bit closer, as Gruetzemacher put on more volume, but more Puelles had the edge in strikes considered significant. He fell behind early in the Round 3 striking and was even taken down, but ultimately put his jiu-jitsu to work and found the fight-clinching submission. After losing his UFC debut back in 2016, the 25-year-old Puelles has racked up four consecutive victories. The challenge now will be staying active after sitting out all of 2020, but there's definitely some ceiling here.
Scheduled to fight Dec. 4
August 30, 2021
Puelles will take on Chris Gruetzemacher in a lightweight clash on Dec. 4, Marcel Dorff of reports.
Puelles is coming off an unanimous decision victory over Jordan Leavitt in June, while Gruetzemacher defeated Rafa Garcia via unanimous decision at the end of July. Puelles is riding into this bout with a three-fight win streak in the UFC.
Pulls upset in UFC Vegas 28 opener
June 6, 2021
Puelles defeated Jordan Leavitt via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Vegas 28 on Saturday.
While Puelles was credited with two takedowns in the first round, his opponent was as well, in addition to a reversal and a 12 to three advantage in significant strikes landed. Despite losing Round 1, Puelles came out and dominated the control time in Rounds 2 and 3 to ultimately earn the favor of the judges. In fact, Puelles controlled over 92 percent of the third frame for a whopping 4:37 of control time. This was a big victory for the +175 underdog, as Puelles now brings his UFC winning streak to three. If there's any downside, he's achieved 22 significant strikes or less in each of his last three fights, which doesn't give him the highest fantasy ceiling.
Set for June 5 bout
April 1, 2021
Puelles will square off against Jordan Leavitt on the UFC's June 5 card, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Puelles put pen to paper on a four-fight contract with the UFC prior to the bout being announced and now has his first of the four on the books. The Peru native has notched a pair of victories following his loss to Martin Bravo in his UFC deut back in November of 2016. Puelles last entered the Octagon in Sept of 2019, snaring a unanimous decision win over Marcos Mariano. On deck is a fighter in Leavitt who has gotten off to a good start in his UFC career, sporting an 8-0-0 professional mark and earning a victory in his debut just 22 seconds into the fight via body slam. Puelles sports advantages of two inches in height and one inch in reach over his opponent.
Scores second win in a row
September 21, 2019
Puelles defeated Marcos Mariano via unanimous decision (30-25, 30-25, 30-25) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.
Puelles won going away. He got stronger as the fight progressed while Mariano quickly faded. Puelles landed four of six takedown attempts to go along with 101 of 116 total strikes. It was a dominant effort from Puelles against a subpar opponent. The 23-year-old has now won back-to-back fights in a span of just four months.
