Pantoja will square off against Askar Askarov in a flyweight matchup on a card scheduled for July 18, according to Askarov's personal Twitter account.
ANALYSIS
Pantoja returned to form with a knockout victory over Matt Schnell in his last bout back in December after losing his previous fight to flyweight title contender Deiveson Figueiredo via unanimous decision. He'll get another opportunity to prove his value versus Askorov, who is coming off of an impressive victory over Tim Elliott at UFC 246. This fight could wind up having future implications involving a title fight in the division. Pantoja sits as an early (-185) betting favorite.

Puts forth bonus-winning effort

December 23, 2019
Pantoja defeated Matt Schnell via KO (punches) at 4:17 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN+ 23 on Saturday in Busan, South Korea.
ANALYSIS
Pantoja and Schnell had several wild exchanges in the first round that saw both men hurt. Pantoja was credited with a takedown as well, but the fight never stayed on the canvas for long. Schnell pushed forward after a reset late in the round and was met with a right hand from Pantoja down the center line. It quickly put his lights out and brings Pantoja right back into the title conversation at flyweight. He'll also take home a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus.

Pantoja will take on Matt Schnell in a flyweight battle at UFC Busan on Dec. 21.
ANALYSIS
Pantoja lost a narrow decision to a top prospect in Deiveson Figueiredo his last time out, which snapped a three-fight winning streak at flyweight. Pantoja has never been submitted in his career, so it comes at no surprise he's a (-220) favorite against Schnell, a submission specialist.
Sheds blood in gritty loss

July 27, 2019
Pantoja lost to Deiveson Figueiredo via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC 240 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Pantoja was coming off back-to-back finishes entering into this fight, but his willingness to stand in the pocket and trade combined with his inability to control his opponent on the ground led to a bad night. Specifically, Pantoja was cut up badly by elbows and rocked by uppercuts while trying to enter. While he never stopped fighting, it was clear that Figueiredo was too much for him in this one, which raises the question of how Pantoja will fare against bigger opponents who can move on the ground. He falls to 21-4 in professional MMA as a result of the loss, but does get a $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus as consolation.

Pantoja and Deiveson Figueiredo have been added to the card for UFC 240 in Canada on July 27, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The bout will pit two fighters heading in opposite directions, as Pantoja has won five of his six bouts since leaving TUF 24 while Figueiredo is coming off the first loss of his professional career. Pantoja's most recent outing was an impressive one, taking down Wilson Reis via TKO (punches) in Round 1 of UFC 236.
Finishes Wilson Reis at UFC 236

Pantoja defeated Wilson Reis via TKO (punches) at 2:58 of Round 1 at UFC 236 on Saturday in Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Entering as a surprising favorite, Pantoja put forth his most impressive performance with the company. Knowing full well that his biggest advantage was on the feet, Pantoja took it to Reis when the two men were standing. The finish came after a beautiful combination right up the middle sent Reis crumbling to the mat. Referee Jason Herzog gave Reis more than ample time to recover, but he was unable to do so. With five victories in his first six UFC bouts, Pantoja is quickly climbing up the rankings at 125 pounds. Add Pantoja to the ever growing list of fighters who are praying the UFC doesn't abolish their flyweight division.
