2019 Fantasy Outlook
Dermott will start the season on long-term injured reserve because of offseason shoulder surgery, which makes this future top-four defender undraftable unless you have a long bench. Dermott skates well, has good offensive skill, and is a positive possession player, so you should be ready to scoop him off the wire before he returns from IR in late November or early December. The 22-year-old's early production won't be impressive, but he could be skating alongside Morgan Rielly and seeing time on the second power-play unit by February. Yes, he's that talented. Placed on injured reserve

September 30, 2019
Dermott (shoulder) was designated for injured reserve Monday.
ANALYSIS
Dermott is expected to miss the first 12-14 games of the season, so his placement on injured reserve shouldn't come as a surprise. In the blueliner's stead, Justin Holl and Timothy Liljegren both earned a spot on the 23-man roster, with one of them likely headed for the minors once Dermott is given the all-clear.

2018 Fantasy Outlook
Dermott was a revelation in just 37 games with the Leafs last season. His 13-point production, coupled with his smooth, two-way game was the best third-pairing season witnessed in a long time, especially when you start looking at similarity scores. Dermott's 2017-18 was eerily similar to John Klingberg's and the one played out by Shayne Gostisbehere. Now, he doesn't have the high-end skill of either of those players, but could easily be a 45-50 point, top-four defender someday soon. He deserves a promotion having outgrown the third pairing and is fabulous in transition. The Leafs could use Dermott on his off-side and skate him with Morgan Rielly. You read that right. Ron Hainsey is on the decline and someone will need to step in. Dermott's sophomore season will be fantasy worthy, and he could be one of the steals of upcoming fantasy drafts.
