Gravel inked a one-year, $700,000 contract with Toronto on Monday, Frank Seravalli of TSN.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
Gravel joins Cody Ceci and Ben Harpur on a revamped Leafs' blue line that figures to see at least three new faces this season. The 27-year-old Gravel split time between the NHL and AHL last season, logging just 36 games for the Oilers as a result. When the defenseman was in the lineup, he averaged a mere 14:43 of ice time, but should see an uptick in games and minutes with Toronto.

Gravel figures to be the biggest beneficiary of the injury to Andrej Sekera (Achilles) -- who is slated to be sidelined until at least January. If the towering defenseman can hold off challenges from the Oilers' young prospects, he could finally break into a more consistent role in the lineup with his new club. Still, it will take a strong start to his 2018-19 season for the defensively-minded 26-year-old to remain in the lineup once Sekera returns. Considering Gravel signed a two-way deal, he could also find himself shipped down to the minors periodically throughout the season.
The 2010 fifth-round selected saw his first extended look in the NHL last season and he posted a vapid seven points through 49 games while logging just 14:09 of ice time per contest. On the plus side, Gravel owns a coveted 6-foot-4 frame and has the makings of a solid third-pairing defenseman for Los Angeles as early as 2017-18. However, his lack of offensive production through the lower levels should temper fantasy expectations. Additionally, he took just three minor penalties last season, so it will be difficult for him to help in most fantasy settings without a significant jump in ice time.
