With his contract expiring this offseason, Barber will likely be hard-pressed to secure a one-way deal and should be expected to once again split his time between the NHL and AHL next year.

The sixth-round pick from the 2012 NHL Entry Draft posted a fine stat line of 13 goals and 27 points in just 39 games with the AHL's Hershey Bears in 2016-17. A standout at the NCAA level and a veteran of Team USA's World Championship rosters, the versatile forward has been one of the more intriguing prospects in the organization for some time but may benefit from added development in the minor league ranks. Should he make the Caps full-time lineup, he could carve out some fantasy value in deeper leagues given his skillset.
