Bitetto was signed by the Rangers for depth in case of injuries on the blue line and will likely spend most nights in the press box, though the team will almost certainly make sure he plays in at least three games so he fulfills the eligibility requirements for exposure in the expansion draft this coming offseason. He has just two goals in 183 career games and failed to light the lamp in 51 appearances with the Jets last season while contributing just eight assists.
Bitetto spent most of the season as a healthy scratch, playing in just 32 games and finishing with a goal and two assists for the Predators. On the rare occasion that he did suit up, he was paired with either Matt Irwin or Yannick Weber to comprise the third defensive pair, averaging 13:26 of ice time. Bitetto signed a one-year contract extension in January, ensuring he will be back in a similar role with the Preds next season. As one of the depth defensemen, he does not warrant much fantasy consideration.
An assortment of injuries limited Bitetto to just 29 games in 2016-17, although he did record seven assists over that span. This season, a healthy Bitetto is expected to compete for a spot on the Preds' third defensive pairing. Furthermore, we'd say his chances are pretty good with Ryan Ellis (knee) on the shelf until January, although he will have to beat out the likes of Yannick Weber, Alexandre Carrier and Petter Granberg to do it. Feel free to take a flyer on Bitetto in the late, late rounds of fantasy drafts this year.
