DraftKings NHL: Sunday Breakdown

DraftKings NHL: Sunday Breakdown

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

There are two NHL games Sunday, but one of them is at 2 p.m. EDT. The other starts at 8 p.m. EDT. While there are classic contests on DraftKings on Sunday, I decided to eschew the afternoon game and just focus on the single-game contests for the evening game between the Red Wings and the Ducks. This game was actually supposed to happen last week, but got postponed.

Both of these teams played Saturday, but the Ducks are the home team for the second game in a row, while the Wings are on the road again. Granted, they were only in Los Angeles, so it wasn't exactly a long trip. Alex Nedeljkovic started for Detroit on Saturday, so Thomas Greiss will likely be in net. He has a 3.41 GAA and .895 save percentage. Meanwhile, the Ducks are in a tricky situation, as John Gibson is out due to COVID-19 protocols. That means either back-to-back starts for Anthony Stolarz, or the first-career start for Lukas Dostal, who is all of 21 years old. As such, I could see this being a high-scoring game.

In single-game contests, you get $50,000 of salary for six players. One of them is your captain, who is worth 1.5 times the points, but also has an elevated salary. Here is a lineup you could put together Sunday night.

CAPTAIN

Troy Terry, ANA vs. DET ($13,200): Terry got off to a scorching start, and naturally he has slowed down a bit. However, only a bit. He has nine points in his last eight games, including a hat trick against the Flyers. Getting a shot against Greiss at home Sunday suits him well.

FLEX

Dylan Larkin, DET at ANA ($10,200): Larkin has powered the Red Wings offense. He leads the team with 16 goals, 32 points, and 90 shots on goal in 31 games. While Stolarz has been quite good this season, it's hard for any goalie to play two nights in a row. That's why it happens so rarely these days, and it may not happen in this one either.

Lucas Raymond, DET at ANA ($8,400): The Swedish rookie has started 55.1 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone. That's the highest on the Red Wings. He skates on Detroit's top line, and also on the first power-play unit. He's been able to pick up six points with an extra man as a result.

Sonny Milano, ANA vs. DET ($7,200): Speaking of favorable starting ice, Milano has started a whopping 77.9 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone. That's second on the Ducks, but clearly the team is getting plenty of time on the attack this year. Milano has also been quite effective on the power play, with eight points on that front.

Robby Fabbri, DET at ANA ($6,200): Fabbri is another player on the top power-play unit. Teams on the second leg of a back-to-back is probably more likely to have tired legs on the penalty kill. Fabbri has also picked up nine goals on 75 shots on net in 33 games, making him an interesting upside play.

Filip Zadina, DET at ANA ($4,400): Zadina comes at a low salary and offers some potential if his puck luck turns around. He only has four goals in spite of the fact he's put 71 shots on net. Maybe facing Stolarz pulling double duty or a debuting Dostal will help him.
