Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

We got an unexpected day off from the NHL on Monday, as unfortunately the Calgary Flames have had three games postponed due to COVID-19 issues. That includes their game against the Predators that was supposed to be played Tuesday. This time, though, we have 13 games to fall back on. Here are some players to target, and to avoid, for your DFS lineup.

GOALIE

Tristan Jarry, PIT vs. MON ($40): Jarry has completely rebounded from last season, as he has an 1.92 GAA and .934 save percentage in 21 games. Meanwhile, Montreal is very much in need of a rebound offensively. The Habs have scored a mere 2.14 goals per game, 31st in the NHL.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Frederik Andersen, CAR at MIN ($31): Andersen has been just as good as Jarry, as he has an 1.92 GAA and .930 save percentage. The difference Tuesday between these two goalies is the matchup. Andersen is on the road, and the Wild have averaged 3.68 goals and 33.3 shots on net per contest.

CENTER

Jack Hughes, NJD at PHI ($17): Hughes has looked good since returning from his lengthy injury absence, as he has four points in his last five games. The Flyers have a 3.31 team GAA, and you can blame a lot of that on a porous defense. Philly has allowed a league-high 34.8 shots on net per contest.

CENTER TO AVOID

Anze Kopitar, LOS at TAM ($23): Become of some iffy backup goaltending, the Lightning's overall defensive numbers don't look great. When Andrei Vasilevskiy is in net, though? The Russian has a 2.17 GAA and .927 save percentage. Since Vasilevskiy will presumably be in net, I'm not liking how things are looking for Kopitar.

WING

Nikolaj Ehlers, WPG vs. BUF ($22): Ehlers has started 63.1 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest on the Jets. That has helped him put a whopping 109 shots on goal in 27 games. Also, since he's shooting at a 9.2 percent clip, there's a decent chance he'll start scoring more goals, and he already has 10. Buffalo has a lot of worries in net right now, which isn't good considering it has allowed 33.6 shots on net per contest.

Carter Verhaeghe, FLA vs. OTT ($17): Verhaeghe quietly recorded 18 goals and 18 assists in 43 games with the Panthers last year. However, it was fair to be skeptical about whether or not it was a fluke. Well, this season he has seven goals and 15 assists in 27 games, so it seems like he's legit. Best of all, the Senators have a 3.72 GAA, highest in the NHL.

WINGS TO AVOID

Jonathan Marchessault, VGK at BOS ($20): Marchessault has posted 11 goals in 22 games, though his 15.7 percent shooting is notably higher than his 10.8 percent career mark. The Bruins have a 2.54 GAA, but this is a team that has two goalies it can rely on. Linus Ullmark has a 2.56 GAA and .921 save percentage, while Jeremy Swayman has a 2.15 GAA and .922 save percentage.

Jesse Puljujarvi, EDM vs. TOR ($16): Puljujarvi doesn't get to play a ton on the power play in Edmonton, and he's not currently on the elite first unit. This year, that hasn't hurt him too much, as he has 20 points in 26 games. That being said, that lack of opportunity with the extra man has me concerned in this matchup. Jack Campbell has a 1.99 GAA and .935 save percentage.

DEFENSE

Kris Letang, PIT vs. MON ($21): Letang only has one goal this season, but because he's tallied 16 assists in 23 games nobody is complaining. Plus, this is a guy who has scored 15 and 16 goals in two of his recent campaigns. Goals will likely come. Maybe he'll light the lamp Tuesday, as the Canadiens have a 3.52 GAA.

MacKenzie Weegar, FLA vs. OTT ($19): Weegar is kind of doing a Letang impression this season. He's notched 15 assists, but he hasn't scored a goal yet. However, he's put 60 shots on target in 27 games. When you shoot that much eventually you will score goals, even if your career shooting rate is only 5.0 percent. The Senators have the league's highest GAA and have given up the third-most shots on net per game, so this could be the night for Weegar.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Shea Theodore, VGK at BOS ($19): Theodore has been racking up some assists recently, though he doesn't have a goal in his last nine games. However, the Golden Knights are a long way from home playing a team with a 2.54 GAA. Whichever Bruins goalie is in net will be imposing, given that they both have save percentages over .920.

Mark Giordano, SEA at SAN ($17): Giordano has been back for two games, and he just picked up an assist and put five shots on net. You know who else just returned, though? That would be James Reimer, who has an 1.98 GAA and .937 save percentage for San Jose. Giordano also has averaged 3:06 per game with the extra man, but the Sharks have the fourth-ranked penalty kill. It's not likely the veteran defenseman will be able to do anything with the man advantage.
