Odds and Ends: Leftover Stats from the First Week

The leftover stats you didn't know you needed ...

450 – The number of wins the King has won in his storied career. Henrik Lundqvist made 43 saves against the Jets on Thursday and now is just four wins shy of tying Curtis Joseph for fifth on the all-time list. He is 34 wins behind Ed Belfour for fourth place and only one of two active goalies in the top 10, the other being Marc-Andre Fleury and his 441 career wins.

328 Mika Zibanejad's projected point total with back-to-back four-point games. Adjust your roster accordingly ... Jokes aside, it's a pretty rare feat; it's only the second time it has happened in the cap era, the first being Jakub Voracek in 2016.

53 – The number of players who are considered rookies and appeared in at least one game through the first week of the season. Six have scored a goal and 16 have managed to register a point, but none are named Jack Hughes or Kaapo Kakko. Heading into Sunday, Hughes had the league's worst CF% at 23.26 percent and getting outshot 23-8 by his opponents. At least it's still early in the season.

46 – That's the career goal-to-assist differential of Jeff Skinner, who is just one assist shy of 200. Only 14 of the 86 players who have scored 200 goals and 200 assists in the cap era have scored more goals than assists, and only two players have a higher differential than

Only 14 of the 86 players who have scored 200 goals and 200 assists in the cap era have scored more goals than assists, and only two players have a higher differential than Skinner: Rick Nash (49) and Alex Ovechkin (106).

42:41 – That's how long Cory Schneider lasted in his first start of the season before he left the game with an injury. He was available Saturday and backed up Mackenzie Blackwood, who allowed seven goals. Schneider said it was cramps, and let's hope it's just that. The No. 1 job is his to lose.

22:27 – That's Quinn Hughes' average ice time through the first two games of the season, which currently leads all rookies and represents an increase of over 20 percent from last year. The Canucks have yet to score a power-play goal, so we could finally see Hughes run the top power-play unit soon.

18 – The number of games it took the Sabres to finally beat the Pens, winning 3-1 after going 15-0-3 during a six-year drought. If the Sabres win three straight it'll be their best start in a decade. Victor Olofsson already has two power-play goals and is a dark-horse candidate for top rookie if he stays on the top line.

11 – That's the number of shots Canucks winger Tanner Pearson registered against the Oilers,  the league's season high and the only double-digit total. He's only two seasons removed from scoring 24 goals for the Kings and plays on the second power-play unit.

10:29 – That's how much ice time the Leafs' third pairing is averaging entering Monday, the lowest in the league. Their top four have scored 11 points in 3 games and each average more than 22 minutes of ice time. Morgan Rielly, Tyson Barrie, Jake Muzzin and, yes, even Cody Ceci, are worth owning.

6:01 – That's how many minutes into the second period before Dave Tippett gave up on the rest of his roster and decided to play Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl on the same line. They are third and first in average ice time among forwards and, according to NaturalStatTrick, only three Oilers forwards have a CF% above 50 percent: McDavid, Draisaitl, and world's luckiest third wheel, Zack Kassian. #FreeMcDavid #FreeDrai

6 – The number of players placed on injured reserve since official puck drop. Among the notables: Adam Larsson (fractured leg) and Nate Schmidt (lower body). In their place: rookies Joel Persson and Nicolas Hague.

5 – That's how many goals Auston Matthews has scored in the first three games both this year AND last year. He entered this season with 25 career goals in October, more than he's scored in any other month. 60 goals doesn't seem like a reach for him.

4 – That's how many shifts Gaetan Haas played in his Oilers debut, for a total of 2:11, after being signed and penciled in as the third-line center at camp. He played 12:18 in his next game, went 6-for-11 in the dot with an assist and a plus-2 rating, so all is not lost.

2Kevin Shattenkirk's goal total in just three games with the Lightning, matching last year's total in 73 games with the Rangers. He's paired with Victor Hedman and playing on the second power-play unit.

1 – The number of points Alex Pietrangelo needs to become the 24th defensemen to score 400 points in the cap era.
