Yahoo DFS Hockey: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

GOALIE

Jordan Binnington, STL at ARI ($35): You can be forgiven for not knowing Binnington's name when the season began, but you should know it now. The rookie has posted a 1.82 GAA and .927 save percentage since getting called up. Though he's on the road, the Coyotes have only scored 2.64 goals per game, so I'm not too concerned.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Marc-Andre Fleury, VGK vs. TOR ($33) : While Fleury and the Golden Knights have been notably better at home this season, in his last five home starts Fleury is 1-4 with a 3.28 GAA and .888 save percentage. Without the home-ice advantage, Flower is just a guy with a .909 save percentage. Plus, the Maple Leafs, who have their full complement of players healthy right now, have scored 3.57 goals per game.

CENTER

Bryan Little, WPG vs. COL ($17): Little has 14 goals and 22 assists through 57 games as Winnipeg's second-line center. Playing with Patrik Laine as one of your wings can only be considered a good thing. The Avalanche have a 3.34 GAA, which is poor, but they've been getting particularly lousy goaltending recently. Case in point, expected starter Semyon Varlamov has a 3.38 GAA and .886 save percentage in his last 15 games.

CENTER TO AVOID

Evgeny Kuznetsov, WAS at SAN ($24): No team has a more striking home/road split than the Sharks. While they've struggled in away games, San Jose has a 2.38 GAA and has only given up 26.7 shots on net per contest at home. They also have the third-ranked penalty kill at home, and 19 of Kuznetsov's 53 points have come with the extra man.

WING

Gustav Nyquist, DET vs. OTT ($17): Nyquist has been enjoying his 2019, even if he's rumored to be on the trading block. In 16 games since we put up our new calendars, he has 13 points. There is still no better matchup in the NHL than getting the Senators in your own arena. Ottawa has a 4.35 GAA and has given up 37.0 shots on net per contest.

Kevin Labanc, SAN vs. WAS ($17): Labanc has started 61.5 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest among San Jose forwards. It's paid off quite a bit recently, as he has 13 points in his last 12 games. The Capitals have a 3.54 road GAA, and they have the 23rd-ranked penalty kill overall. That will sound good to Labanc, as 14 of his points have come with the extra man.

WINGS TO AVOID

Jamie Benn, DAL at TAM ($21): Benn is having a good season, but he has only one goal in his last 11 games. This will be a tough matchup for turning things around. Andrei Vasilevskiy is setting personal bests this year, as he has a 2.45 GAA and .925 save percentage. On top of that, the Lightning have the third-ranked penalty kill.

Anders Lee, NYI at CLM ($20): Lee has been a power-play maven the last couple of years, as he had 22 points with the extra man last season, and he has 13 in 56 games this year. That being said, in his last 14 games he has zero power-play points. Now, he has to take on a Columbus team with the second-ranked penalty kill.

DEFENSE

Jacob Trouba, WPG vs. COL ($19): Trouba has managed to stay healthy this year, and he's also managed to notch seven points in his last seven games. He also has eight points with the extra man, and the Avalanche have the 28th-ranked penalty kill. Additionally, Trouba has blocked 119 shots in 57 games, so he adds fantasy value on that front.

Drew Doughty, LOS vs. VAN ($17): Doughty has done his best to ignite a moribund Los Angeles offense from the blue line, and he does have six points in his last nine contests. He's also been getting it done on the power play, as he has 17 points with the extra man. The Canucks are the lone team on the second night of a back-to-back, and they are on the road to boot. This will likely lead to Marek Mazanec getting his first NHL start since the 2015-16 campaign, when he had four rough outings for the Predators.

DEFENSE TO AVOID

Shea Weber, MON at NAS ($22): Weber has a four-game point streak, but obviously I don't see that continuing against his former squad. The Predators have a 2.40 GAA at home, and have only given up 27.4 shots on net per game in those outings. You've got a lot of other options, so why risk it with Weber?

Seth Jones, CLM vs. NYI ($21): Here's another streaker that I think is going to hit a wall on Valentine's Day. That wall is the New York defense and goaltending. The Islanders have a 2.34 GAA. No other team has a GAA lower than 2.50. On top of that, while Jones has been racking up assists recently, he only has one goal in his last 25 contests.
