Yahoo DFS Hockey: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

GOALIE

Devan Dubnyk, MIN vs. ANA ($33): Dubnyk's last two starts have gone poorly, but don't fret too much. In his previous 13 games he had a 2.10 GAA and .930 save percentage. Plus, this should be a light day of work for the veteran goalie. The Ducks have only managed 25.4 shots on net per contest on the road.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Frederik Andersen, TOR at TAM ($30): Andersen has a 2.54 GAA and .922 save percentage, but he didn't look great in his first start after a lengthy injury absence. On top of that, this is a tough matchup for the Dane. The Lightning have what appears to be pretty clearly the league's top offense, as they've averaged 4.00 goals per game.

CENTER

Brock Nelson, NYI vs. NJD ($17): Nelson's minutes have soared this season, as he's averaged a hair over 18 minutes per game in ice time. He's also been producing recently, as he has seven points in his last nine contests. Meanwhile, the Devils have a 3.88 GAA on the road.

CENTER TO AVOID

Mark Scheifele, WPG at NAS ($32): This is nothing against Scheifele, who is having another fine season. However, this is about as tough of a matchup as you are going to fine. The Predators have a 2.09 GAA at home, and have only allowed 27.0 shots on net per contest in those outings. That makes this a high price to pay for Scheifele.

WING

Zach Parise, MIN vs. ANA ($23): Parise is showing no signs of his age, especially recently, as he has 12 points in his last 11 games. He's also put 138 shots on net in 45 contests. Allowing shots is something that the Ducks do with gusto, as they've given up 34.3. shots on goal per game. While John Gibson has done his best, they even have a 3.00 GAA as a team now.

Mats Zuccarello, NYR vs. CHI ($18): From a guy whose first name starts with a Z to a guy whose last name does, Zuccarello has 21 points in 33 games. That includes 10 points with the extra man. How power-play prowess could come into play in this one, as the Blackhawks have the league's worst penalty kill.

WINGS TO AVOID

Mitch Marner, TOR at TAM ($30): Marner is also having an excellent season, but he's also facing a tough matchup. Andrei Vasilevskiy has a 2.46 GAA and .925 save percentage, and the Lightning have a 2.57 GAA at home as a team. On top of that, Tampa has the sixth-ranked penalty kill, and Marner has done a fair amount of his damage with the extra man.

Vladimir Tarasenko, STL at BOS ($24): Tarasenko has had a rough season by his standards, thanks in part to a 9.4 shooting percentage. That's below his career average, but it isn't so low as to be unsustainable. Even though the Bruins are on the second leg of a back-to-back, they have a 2.43 GAA at home, so this is still a tough matchup for the struggling Russian.

DEFENSE

John Klingberg, DAL vs. LOS ($22): Klingberg has been his usual self since returning from injury. Over his 13 games since getting healthy he has nine points, including four with the extra man. His well-established success with the extra man should help him in this matchup, as the Kings have the 30th-ranked penalty kill.

Kevin Shattenkirk, NYR vs. CHI ($18): Shattenkirk has started 55.6 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest on the Rangers. He also has five points in nine games since returning from injury, and his 2.7 shooting percentage seems ripe for regression. As for the Blackhawks, they have a 3.96 road GAA, and their penalty kill ranks last in the league.

DEFENSE TO AVOID

Torey Krug, BOS vs. STL ($20): Krug is having a good season, although he's not going to score 14 goals like he did last you. However, the Bruins are the only team playing a back-to-back Thursday. Also, while you might think that being at home would be a real boon for Boston, the Blues actually have a 2.46 road GAA, second lowest in the NHL.

Drew Doughty, LOS at DAL ($17): Doughty has zero points in his last four games, and also only two goals in his last 25 contests. Now he faces a Stars team with a 2.64 GAA and .915 save percentage. They also have the ninth-ranked penalty kill, and 12 of Doughty's 25 points have come with the extra man.
