DraftKings NHL: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Frederik Andersen, TOR vs. COL ($7,900): Andersen was scheduled to come back earlier but his return was delayed due to the flu; he's now healthy after participating in practice on Sunday and expected to be activated from IR today. The Avs offense has slowed down considerably and Andersen has been a big reason for the Leafs' success this season. He has won three straight starts and has a career .938 save percentage against them.

CENTER

Auston Matthews, TOR vs. COL ($7,700): Matthews comes at a slight discount due to his recent mediocre play, registering one assist in his past three games. The upside is this: the Avs defense is so thin John Tavares will likely draw the hardest matchups and linemates Kasperi Kapanen and Andreas Johnsson have both been very good this season. Matthews has eight goals in 11 games against Western Conference foes this year, as well.

Max Domi, MON at BOS ($5,100): I have a feeling that Philip Danault's line will draw Patrice Bergeron, which certainly makes Domi's job a lot easier. Domi has struggled recently but perhaps a game with a hated rival will bring out the best in him. He scored a goal earlier in the season against them and has performed well against divisional foes with 17 points in 16 games.

WING

Mitch Marner, TOR vs. COL ($7,000): One of the biggest snubs for the All-Star Game this season, Marner should be able to extend his scoring streak to three games against the Avs, who have fallen off the wagon a little, culminating in a small spat between Nathan MacKinnon and Jared Bednar on the bench last game. Marner has never scored against the Avs, but does have four assists in four games against them. The Avs have lost three straight with 15 goals allowed.

Alex DeBrincat, CHI at NJ ($5,800): The Devils should start MacKenzie Blackwood in net but it shouldn't really matter; DeBricat has made minced meat of goalies recently with a four-game goal streak and enters the game with 23 goals in 47 games this season. Thanks to him the Blackhawks power play has suddenly become very dangerous again, and they have a good chance despite facing the league's second-best penalty kill.

Jakub Vrana, WAS vs. STL ($4,700): He was held without a point in a low-scoring game against Columbus, but St. Louis presents an appetizing matchup for the red-hot winger. He scored four points in two games against Boston and Philadelphia, and in 44 games this season is just two points shy of tying last year's career high. His ice time continues to be inconsistent, but he has 11 points in his past 19 games and plays with Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie.

DEFENSE

Jared Spurgeon, MIN at PHI ($5,300): He's one of the league's most underrated players in the Mattias Ekholm mold in the sense that he does just about everything for the Wild. He's been the one who's needed to fill the giant void left by Matt Dumba, and over the past two months is averaging 24 minutes per game. He's not as dynamic on offense, but 26 points in 44 games is a respectable total and the Flyers' defense and goaltending have been a mess all season. Spurgeon is a good value pick given his price relative to his role.

Rasmus Dahlin, BUF at EDM ($3,900): It might be a good idea to squeeze a Sabre onto your roster considering they're facing one of the league's worst teams, and one that's been free-falling after the Ken Hitchcock honeymoon period was over. With four points in three games Dahlin has picked up the offensive pace recently and has continued to see his role expand as the season progresses. He's now averaging well over 20 minutes per game and since November has scored 20 points in 33 games.
