DraftKings NHL: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Jacob Markstrom, VAN vs. ARI ($7,800): Not having Elias Pettersson severely hinders the Canucks' ability to score, but with the way Markstrom's been playing, they at least have a good chance. Take away Markstrom's five-goal loss to the Leafs and he's been one of the league's best goaltenders since December. January has historically been a strong month for Markstrom as well, who has a career 1.86 GAA against the Coyotes. Henrik Lundqvist ($7,200) has struggled, but I also like his odds at home as well.

CENTER

Brayden Point, TB vs. CAR ($7,300): He's scoring at a much higher rate than Steven Stamkos ($7,500) and plays with Nikita Kucherov, and the Lightning offense has been unstoppable all season. Expected starter Curtis McElhinney has played well, but Point is also on a hot streak with eight points in his past five games. Point has a low floor due to his consistency this season.

Max Domi, MON at STL ($5,700): He hasn't scored a goal since Dec. 9 but remains Montreal's top center. Given his ice time and a date against one of the league's most inconsistent goaltenders in Jake Allen, Domi's a pretty good value pick on a night with a deep pool of players. He has eight points in 10 career games against the Blues.

WING

Mitch Marner, TOR at NJ ($7,200): He's enduring a bit of a dry spell, going without a point in three of his past four games, but you never quite know when the Leafs offense will explode. They certainly have a good chance against the Devils, who've had goaltending issues all season. Marner is one of the more expensive wingers tonight but is worth considering thanks to his consistency and favored matchups. Expected starter Keith Kinkaid has allowed 18 goals in his past four losses.

Mike Hoffman, FLA at EDM ($6,100): Three of the Panthers' top four wingers cost within $100 of each other, but Evgenii Dadonov ($6,100) is the third wheel on the top line, so much of the offense on the second line will run through Hoffman, who has three goals in his past five games. Hoffman had two assists earlier this season against Cam Talbot and the Oilers in a 4-1 win.

Ilya Kovalchuk, LA vs. OTT ($4,400): The days of Kovalchuk getting fourth-line minutes are over, and after skating over 17 minutes in each of his past three games and collecting an assist in two straight, he's an intriguing option against the Sens. Kovalchuk has seven power-play points this season, the Sens' penalty killing ranks 30th, and they'll be starting Marcus Hogberg, who has a .884 save percentage in four appearances this season.

DEFENSE

P.K. Subban, NSH at CLS ($5,600): With an assist against Chicago, that's now a point in four straight games for Subban, who has found a groove since returning from injury in late December. Sergei Bobrovsky will sit out for disciplinary reasons Thursday and there should be no concerns with the Preds playing back-to-back; they've won three straight and key players are returning from injury.

Jacob Trouba, WPG at MIN ($4,800): He's been on fire with five points in his last two games, and against Central Division rivals, too. Goaltending and defense haven't been the Jets' strength this season, but scoring certainly has. Josh Morrissey ($5,300) currently has the top power-play assignment and also logs a lot of minutes, but Trouba provides a cost-saving opportunity.
