DraftKings NHL: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Adin Hill, ARI vs. NJ ($7,600): The play here is hoping that MacKenzie Blackwood, who allowed five goals in his previous start, falters and the Devils continue to stumble on the road with their 4-13-3 record. Taylor Hall remains injured and they needed depth veterans Drew Stafford and Brian Boyle to keep it close against the Stars. With Hill, you're looking for a win that hopefully won't be too costly.

CENTER

Pierre-Luc Dubois, CLS at CAR ($6,300): Dubois scored four points in his last game on New Year's Eve against the Sens, and while the Hurricanes should be tougher, they aren't a good defensive team, either. He is averaging close to a point per game this season, including 17 in 18 games on the road and already has two assists in two games against the Hurricanes.

Ryan Johansen, NSH at DET ($5,000): This is a good price for a premier playmaker going up against a young defensive corps. The Predators are getting healthy and with Viktor Arvidsson back Johansen has produced more with both players scoring four points each in their past two games. He's a far better bet than Kevin Hayes ($5,700) or Nico Hischier ($5,200).

WING

Artemi Panarin, CLS at CAR ($6,800): He's riding a five-game scoring streak with nine points and looks like a bargain at this price against a mediocre opponent. Alexander Radulov, for example, is $100 cheaper but hasn't been nearly as productive and faces a tougher opponent. The Bread Man has not been particularly dominant against the Hurricanes in the past and Curtis McElhinney has played well but it's hard to pass him up.

Brandon Pirri, VGK at ANA ($6,200): I've been riding the Pirri train since his call-up, but now it's getting to the point where you're crossing your fingers and hoping he produces at least a goal or two. He is no longer a value play but a player you ride until the music stops. That could happen against John Gibson, but Vegas has been scoring and winning a lot lately and he's firmly entrenched as the second-line winger.

Ondrej Kase, ANA vs. VGK ($5,800): He had 13 points in 12 games in December and, by most metrics, is a very effective top-six forward. The Ducks may have found a gem with their seventh-round pick, and though critics may point to a career-high shooting percentage, keep in mind he did something similar for 66 games last season. He's Anaheim's top offensive weapon so far despite playing on the second line, and a surer bet than Daniel Sprong ($2,800) or Pontus Aberg ($3,900).

DEFENSE

Kris Letang, PIT vs. WPG ($6,200): Letting is riding a five-game point streak with a plus-13 rating on the season. The Pens are on a roll with seven straight wins and the Jets haven't looked dominant for long stretches this season. Letang has eight points in eight games against Central Division opponents this season.

Michal Kempny, WAS at DAL ($4,600): As long as he's paired with John Carlson, there's some value to be had. Kempny's price is just $200 higher since he scored three points in two games, and with 14 points in 36 games this season he's on pace for 30-40 points, a solid total for a someone who's normally a depth guy. Despite three wins in their past four games, the Stars remain underwhelming and nearly blew a two-goal lead against the Devils on Wednesday.
