Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

Tuesday's NHL slate is a sizable one, with 10 games on tap beginning at 7:00 PM Eastern time. Read on to see which players stand out from the pack as options to target or, conversely, as guys to avoid.

GOALIE

Louis Domingue, TB vs. ANH ($27): Domingue has thrived as Tampa Bay's top netminder with Andrei Vasilevskiy sidelined by a broken foot, nabbing the win in five of his past six starts. With Tampa Bay's league-best offense (3.79 goals per game) supporting him and Anaheim's league-worst offense (2.16 goals per game) shooting on him, Domingue is primed to continue his winning ways while still leaving owners plenty of cap room to spend on the rest of the lineup.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Martin Jones, SJ at BUF ($31): Jones has had a rough go of late, scoring 2.4 or fewer fantasy points in three of his past five starts. His season-long numbers don't look very good, either, as Jones is sporting a 3.01 GAA and .891 save percentage. In years past, a matchup with the Sabres would have represented a great opportunity to get back on track, but that's not the case with the current edition, which comes in riding a nine-game winning streak.

CENTER

Sean Couturier, PHI vs. OTT ($18): Couturier's season got off to a slow start, but he's bounced back nicely with six goals and 13 points in the past nine games. Considering Couturier's coming off a 31-goal, 76-point campaign, his recent success is very much sustainable. Not only is Ottawa by far the worst defensive team in the league, but the Senators will also be playing their second game in as many nights, so this is the ideal time to deploy Couturier.

CENTER TO AVOID

Jeff Carter, LA at VAN ($18): Carter's mired in a 10-game goal drought, and it's not like the rest of his game covers the lack of scoring. He has just three helpers and a minus-3 rating in that stretch, dropping Carter's season mark to minus-8. Even against a scuffling Vancouver club, it's not worth paying $18 for the veteran center.

WINGS

Jeff Skinner, BUF vs. SJ ($25): Jones' struggles have already been touched upon, and Skinner's primed to capitalize on them. Half of Skinner's 18 goals have come during Buffalo's nine-game winning streak, and his season rating is a robust plus-13. Look for Skinner to keep rolling in what could turn into a high-scoring affair.

Alex Tuch, VGK at CHI ($20): Tuch has played at a point-per-game pace through 17 appearances, with seven goals among those 17 points. He's also laying out a tremendous case for the Lady Byng Trophy with no penalty minutes, but that's beside the point. Chicago's giving up the fifth-most goals per game (3.38), so Tuch's primed for another strong performance after racking up a goal and an assist in each of the past two games.

WINGS TO AVOID

Alex DeBrincat, CHI vs. VGK ($16): DeBrincat seems like a good value at $16, but his production this season has been extremely front-loaded. He has just two goals and two assists in the past 14 games after logging 14 points through the first 10 contests, and getting back on track will be difficult against red-hot Vegas netminder Marc-Andre Fleury, who has three shutouts in his last six games.

Micheal Ferland, CAR at MON ($21): Ferland's overpriced at $21, both based on his career output and recent results. His career average of .38 points per game works out to just a 31-point season pace, and Ferland has played like a player of that mediocre caliber of late. In six of his past 10 games, Ferland's scored 2.8 or fewer fantasy points.

DEFENSEMEN

Gavin Bayreuther, DAL at EDM ($15): Bayreuther's ice time has climbed in each of his six appearances for the Stars, reaching 23:00 Saturday. The offensively gifted blueliner already has a goal and an assist, and he's primed to find further success with his recent promotion to the top power-play unit, where he'll benefit from sharing the ice with Dallas' highly skilled forwards. Facing Edmonton's 75.0-percent penalty kill will offer Bayreuther a terrific opportunity to capitalize on his role with the extra man.

Matt Dumba, MIN vs. ARI ($20): Dumba has five goals and nine points over his active six-game point streak, and his 10 goals lead all NHL defensemen this season. Coyotes netminder Antti Raanta has surrendered 11 goals in two games since returning from injury, so Arizona will have a hard time slowing down the streaking Dumba.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Ian Cole, COL at NSH ($18): Cole doesn't do enough offensively to justify a look at $18, especially given the opposition here. He has just eight points -- none on the power play -- so Cole's upside is limited against a Predators team that's outscoring opponents 3.38 to a league-low 2.38 on average.

Jamie Oleksiak, PIT at WPG ($18): Oleksiak's another $18 defenseman that lacks offensive ability. He has just two points in his last 11 games and has been held to 2.0 fantasy points or fewer in seven of those contests. Using him in Winnipeg is just asking for trouble.
