Yahoo DFS Hockey: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

Monday's five-game slate features 10 Eastern Conference teams and plenty of fantasy value to go around. Here are some things you can key on as you put together your lineup.

Goalie

Sergei Bobrovsky, CLS @ DET ($30)

Bobrovsky has come on strong lately after a slow start to the season, winning six of his eight starts in November while posting a stellar .945 save percentage during that span. The veteran keeper will be well-rested after getting a night off Saturday and gets to face a Red Wings team Monday that's averaged 2.6 goals per game.

Goalie to Avoid

Robin Lehner, NYI vs. WAS ($32)

Given his recent struggles and his Monday opponent, it's a bit puzzling to see Lehner represented at this price point -- the 27-year-old keeper has allowed 16 goals over the last six games, which has amounted to a 2-3-1 record. Thomas Greiss has been the more impressive Islanders goalie lately and could receive the start here, but neither one is a particularly strong play against the explosive Washington offense.

Center

Nicklas Backstrom, WAS @ NYI ($24)

Backstrom knows the benefits of centering a line with Alex Ovechkin, and they include a point-per-game pace over the last 12 contests and 25 points over the course of the campaign. The Swedish pivot has also managed at least two shots on goal in 12 of the last 13 games, which gives him a nice floor and justifies his usage even at a more expensive price tag.

Center to Avoid

Aleksander Barkov, FLA vs. NJ ($26)

Barkov has struggled to fill the hole in the offense left by Vincent Trocheck (ankle), recording just one goal and an alarming minus-6 rating over the last three games. The 23-year-old hasn't been great in the plus-minus department this season, which puts him in especially dire straits if he doesn't score. At this price point, it's not worth betting on when there's more reliable options at better values.

Wings

Cam Atkinson, CLS @ DET ($23)

Atkinson has been one of the hottest players in the league over the last couple of weeks, racking up nine goals, 13 points and a plus-8 rating in his last seven games. The Boston College product and the rest of the Blue Jackets' first line -- consisting of Artemi Panarin and Pierre-Luc Dubois -- has been one of the most productive in the league, so expect them to keep it rolling against a very beatable Red Wings squad.

Chris Kreider, NYR vs. OTT ($18)

Though he hasn't put up points in two consecutive games, it's clear that Kreider is one of the main focal points of this New York offense -- the Massachusetts native has fired 30 shots on goal in the last 10 contests, converting six of those into goals and also adding five assists. This Ottawa defense has been among the most porous in the game, allowing a league-high 4.35 goals per game, so take advantage here.

Wings to Avoid

David Pastrnak, BOS @ TOR ($31)

Pastrnak has looked lost without Patrice Bergeron (ribs) centering his line, recording just one point in four games without the Bruins' longtime pivot. The overall fantasy value of this line took a hit when Bergeron went down, but the price has yet to follow, so it may not be wise to tempt fate here especially against a Toronto defense that has been surprisingly stout, allowing just 2.58 goals per game.

Josh Anderson, CLS @ DET ($20)

Anderson doesn't get enough usage for a player at this price point -- he is averaging 16:17 of ice time per night with an average of only 1:21 with the man advantage. The Ontario native's production doesn't justify using him here either, as he has just three points -- all of them goals -- in the last 10 contests. Anderson is not one of the top options in this offense, so your money can be better used finding someone who is.

Defensemen

Keith Yandle, FLA vs. NJ ($21)

Yandle is one point short of a point-per-game pace this season, which really speaks to his importance for this Florida offense, both at even strength and on the power play, especially in the wake of Trocheck's injury. The Devils have not been especially strong on either end of the ice.

Mike Green, DET vs. CLS ($16)

Green plays a large role in Detroit's schemes on both ends of the ice and has really been stepping it up offensively of late, compiling six points in as many games and firing at least two shots on goal in each contest. Though the Red Wings have had lots of goals scored on them this season, the 33-year-old blueliner has managed to keep his plus-minus at respectable levels and shows a plus-5 rating at the moment.

Defensemen to Avoid

Torey Krug, BOS @ TOR ($20)

Since returning from injured reserve with an ankle injury, Krug has had a rather large monkey occupying his back, as he has no goals in any of those 12 games. This is concerning for a guy who put up 14 scores last season, especially so considering he's taken only six shots on goal in the last five contests. It's probably not a good idea to test him against this tough Maple Leafs squad.

Nick Leddy, NYI vs. WAS ($18)

With just six points in 22 games this campaign, Leddy is certainly underperforming from previous seasons of offensive usefulness. Despite this, the Minnesota native continues to see pricing in the usable section of defenseman, though he's proven his floor often can't be trusted because he has a negative rating. Deploying him against this high-powered Caps offense will likely not prove wise.
